What Common Food Have You Never Eaten?

I am a beef girl but I have never eaten tripe and it is never going to happen

oh

and kippers (gag me)

I like tripe cooked in some ways. Have you tried sweetbreads and heart?

Willing to try almost anything edible at least once.

I guess I'll have to wait to see what other people post to say if I've tried it or not yet.

Note, the OP said "common food." Problem is common here in the USA is not common everywhere.

Yes. I missed the "common" in the OP, as I read the post. But you are right. Food is regionally common and often not globally.

I've tried most everything from escargot, gator tail to frog legs but have no interest in chocolate ants. Bugs aren't my thang.

I tried grasshoppers and ants. Not bad. Never bot them again.

veggies :

i've never tried okra.

meats :

first that comes to mind : raw oysters. also, game meats.

I can do without the okra, like the oysters and would say that with deer and wild boar you are really missing something.

Most seafood. I love fresh clamari, but can't stand much else from the ocean.

What? Not even Balmain Bugs? Yummy!

The only thing I've never been able to bring myself to try is brains. Not for the taste, I reckon they probably taste fine, but for the texture. Texture often plays a part in my eating preferences. I really hate avocados because of that bar-of-soap feel they have in the mouth. I love guacamole and other avocado dishes where your teeth don't have to slip into that soapy, rubbery mush.

I have yet to eat haggis.

Where can you even find rabbit? Do they even sell that in stores?

Good morning, TheGoverness. :2wave:

Yes, one of our local little stores - not a part of a big chain - has whole rabbits for sale behind glass in the meat department, skinned and gutted, which are raised by local people. They apparently cut them to order. I've never bought one, nor do I ever intend to - can't bring myself to do it. I'm told they taste like chicken, but since they sell chicken, I'll buy chicken, thank you very much!

Rabbit is way more delicious than chicken - it actually tastes of something - which is more than you can say for most chicken. I have a dozen recipes for using rabbit. You should try it. Another good reason is that it has the most protein, lowest fat, lowest cholesterol and fewest calories of any meat you can eat. It is absolutely THE healthiest dead animal you can scoff.

Have you seen Babe? And do you like bacon?

Finding Nemo? Like fish?

Greetings, Andalublue. :2wave:

I know, I know. It's mindset, I guess. I eat bacon, and salmon, tuna and most other fish, and I do enjoy North Atlantic cod dinners from Arthur Treachers. I'm told people eat shark, but I hope I never get that hungry!

Ya gotta eat them before they eat you, Pol.

Arthur Treachers?

Shark is great. Fairly similar to swordfish and tuna, no bones, and great nutritional value. You never know, you may have eaten it already but not realised since shark meat has a dozen or more different names when cooked: dogfish, flake, woof, huss, steakfish, whitefish, rock salmon, cape steak, moki... any of those ring a bell?

I suppose if the rabbit was cut into pieces like chicken is - breasts, thighs, legs, etc - I might consider it. It's just seeing a whole animal lying there on its side that bothers me, I guess.

Shrimp ... I mean, what the ****?

Sadly, I have eaten boiled okra a couple of times, so this doesn't qualify. However, okra was created by the devil to be passed off as food. It isn't. It's pond scum in disguise.

crab stuffed mushrooms are great...

never had crawfish, but it might be okay if it is mild

my problem with fish is that in order to consume it I have to cover it with bad stuff so it kind of defeats the purpose...

Take a mild flavored fish (sole, halibut, cod) and cover it with a mixture of bread crumbs, S&P, parsley, lots of garlic and enough olive oil to bind the mixture together. Then bake the fish till done.
