the breakfast thread

Today's breakfast was 4 Scallops, pan seared with a little lemon at the end. Good yummy protein!

i haven't ruled out seafood at some point. scallops are high on the list if i ever have a pescatarian day. my favorite besides deep fried were the ones that i used to get a local Japanese grill.

The secret to cooking them is a hot pan, little oil (if you can, ghee butter after they go in) and to dry them so they get that delicious crust. If you can and are willing, use beef tallow/lard/rendered fat. However avocado oil works well too.

PB on an English muffin.

had my weekly weigh in today, and i'm in my original weight goal range. i have been a couple pounds over it for a while, but still ~25 BMI. i was surprised, as i figured that i might have gained a pound last week.

what are you having for breakfast?

mine :

15 grain toast with all sorts of cool seeds on it
yogurt margarine

Every weekend my GF and I have the same thing on Saturdays. It's a recipe Stanley Tucci's father used to make for the family that I read about in The Guardian.

You slow cook a can of plum tomatoes (or diced works well too) for about 30 minutes then poach eggs in it.

We do it slightly differently. We start with a bit of garlic and red pepper flakes in olive oil then add the tomatoes. We add rosemary at the same time. Cook the tomatoes for about 20 - 30 minutes then add some parmesan cheese and then poach the eggs.

The red pepper flakes adds some bite and the rosemary adds a very nice subtle aroma and taste.

Give it a try, you'll be hooked.

More like a canadian breakfast, I only see 3 firearms, 2 lobster tails and one jesus head, oh yeah and not enough bacon!

Don't think so. A Canadian breakfast would have moose sausage and pancakes (real maple syrup of course). And the heathens don't do Jesus for breakfast.

Breakfast is a hard one as I keep odd hours, but it just so happens that I just polished off

4 eggs over hard

3 pieces of toasted Pane, w/ butter.

(okay, okay, and a handful of Fritos Honey BBQ)

Stanley Tucci's father's uovo fra’diavolo for me and sweetie this morning:

When I attended college in upstate NY on Lake Ontario, we'd drive 120 miles up to Kingston Ontario for a Canadian Chinese breakfast. Congee, steamed buns, dim sum, tofu pudding, steaming bowls of fish broth with noodles, grilled eel and fried garlicky baby octopus, shrimp toast, yam cha (morning tea). Hearty stick to your ribs food for blizzard like cold days. No moose, bacon or pancakes with syrup. Then drive back in time for classes. No double nickel speed limits. Driving 90mph in my junk '54 Business Man's Ford, with 10 to a dozen students crammed in for the body heat. Everyone chipping in for gas at 29¢ per gallon. Breakfast was $1.99 Canadian, an all you can eat buffet. $1.49us. No tax. We'd pick up cases of LaBlatt Pilsner and stow them in the trunk. A single border guard in a heated booth on the American side, either sleeping or not willing to come out in the cold would wave at us as we crossed the border in both directions when he was awake.

English muffin with reduced fat peanut butter.

i'm finally on vacation.

slice of cinnamon raisin bread with yogurt margarine
chocolate digestive biscuit.

Breakfast is more of a checklist item than a thoughtful experience for me. I wish I took more time on a morning meal than I usually do. Except on weekends. I'm a breakfast/brunch slut on weekends. Today I had apple cinnamon instant oatmeal, coffee, and a glass of black cherry cranberry juice. I had a banana an hour later.

I made steel cut oats with milk and a dash of cinnamon on top.

three pancakes w/ sugar free syrup
one scrambled egg.

two scrambled eggs w/ garlic salt
pumkin spice muffin w/ sugar free syrup.

Cream of tomato soup with two slices of cheese toast. Yum yum on a cold day.

The rest of the new potatoes we didn't eat for dinner last night and one expresso and one coffee.

i made some pancakes and scrambled eggs. it's nice to have a little bit more time to cook on the weekends.
