It doesn't say anywhere that they eat meat only once a year.It Basically says poorer Brokpa tribe members eat less meat than those who are not as poor do and eat a lot more meat during special occasions (rituals and festivals). Which seems to be the case in any country, poor people eat less meat than their more wealthier counterparts, but eat a lot more meat on special occasions. The premise of your OP article is disproved. That tribe has never been vegan for 5000 years.
