Spaghetti Sauce - Meat Sauce or Meatballs?

Spaghetti Sauce

I almost chose both but I'm a meatball guy. I love to go to Olive Garden and I'm willing to pay the extra to get those meatballs. Now, I'm hungry...

Because, deep down, they're not happy with their lifestyle choice. They know there's something better out there.

I like a meat sauce!

Now I'm bummed. I texted the wife requesting she make spaghetti tonight. She replied back that we are having chicken soup :(

I replied "with both" but by that I mean I make sauce both ways depending on what I'm after. If I'm making meatballs and cooking them at least part of the time in the sauce, which is how my mom made them and how I normally do as well, I don't see much point in putting ground meat in the sauce as well. If I'm making something like like pasta with chopped meat and peas then the ground meat goes into the sauce because it's meant to be eaten as part of the sauce.

Having eaten bolognese (and in Bologna too!) when I saw it being prepared by an old Italian granny she put everything into it- from tripe to ham bits to soup bones to pork, beef, and just about everything and then mixed it up with numerous spices (thats the key- you just dont put in one type of meat in it, you put in a combination of different meats- both pork and beef, even lamb), then slow cooked it until everything was tender. It was heavenly.

That's the way my mom made sauce on Sundays. Meatballs, pork sausages and lamb all went into the sauce pot.

For a historical reference, think about what Italian food was like.. before they had tomatoes!

OMG - sometime soon I'ma gonna try this:

Can you imagine????

Bacon wrapped meatballs cooked on grill!!!!!!!!!

Why wasn't this an option on the poll. I choose this!

Lol k.

I too like meat sauce and meatballs and I'm nowhere near Christy's size.

It's like, there's this thing, called... EXERCISE! Who would've thought?

sure. people in the US don't eat too much, nothing to see here, move along. LOL

They were eat these and live forever balls.

Heh. Kinda like that joke about the guy who was bit on the pecker by a rattlesnake. When he told his buddy he'd survive if the poison was sucked out, his buddy's reply was, "you're gonna die dude".

I image the meatless balls looking much like your avatar.

I think you're frustrated by the fact that there are people out there who eat meat and are not only in shape, but probably better shape than you're in.

That's ok.

Oh, and that non-meat ball receipe you posted looks like absolute ****ing ****. Absolute trash of a recipe that didn't even belong here because it wasn't even part of the OP (MEATballs, simple reading comprehension here. If it's a ball that doesn't contain meat, then it's irrelevant to the OP).

Dude - some jack-holes deserve to be ignored. I think you've found the newest one at DP.

I have decided that I am not a pasta girl...not a big favourite....but once in a while, I do enjoy some spaghetti with meat sauce

I could happily live without it

but once in a blue moon, it's a treat

you're right. it is kinda funny how defensive people get about their unhealthy habits

Perhaps somebody could start a rabbit's food balls thread.

I love love love a meatball hoagie, on a french dip roll with a good tomato sauce and sauteed green peppers over the top, but I cant get into them on my pasta. Too many bad meatballs on pasta growing up I think. Pork sausage, and I am talking about a good one with spices and fat, is what I go for. Good sausage is getting increasingly hard to find where I am though. I am tempted to start making my own now that I am retired.

Note: I have not seen a good restaurant meatball sandwich in well over a decade, I make my own, with pork sausage and ground beef, simmered in sauce.

Stay in your own lane please. I decide what is best for me, and sometimes that is comfort food, that which completely satisfies all of me, regardless of the nutrition label.

Note: I used to own a comfort food restaurant. I feel strongly on this subject.

What in hell is a hoagie? It's called a hero dammit. :)

I think meat sauce with ground beef has no real flavor value in spaghetti beyond the psychological value of "I'm eating a dish with meat in it". If meat is used in the sauce it should be sliced Italian sausage or better yet, diced pepperoni. Otherwise...meatballs as the meatball maintains flavor integrity.

I believe that "vegan" was the caveman word for "lousy hunter."
