'Veg-friendly’ Barcelona joins Meat Free Monday' [W:52]

Humans are carnivores, by nature. Part of nature's natural selection process to keep the planet functioning. I'm curious about what you would plan to do with all the animals that currently are raised and bred to feed the world if everyone, as you seem to want, became a Vegan?

technically, we're omnivores, IMO.

myself, i say eat what you want to. my diet is largely grains / veggies with some meat, and some days just grains / veggies / other sources of protein.

That's true enough - thanks for the correction - I simply meant that we have a natural need/desire to consume meat. I don't eat meat daily, but certainly a couple of times a week. If I'm ever dieting, I will consume more meat, as it satiates the best at least for me.

just a few times per week, is much better than most people do.

“Ohio University will not promote any menu style with an agenda tied to it,” says Neumann, who believes that Meatless Mondays is an attempt to convince people to adopt a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle. “How can a university ethically promote one dietary choice over another and say they value diversity? How is denying the choice to eat meat every Monday different from denying the choice to eat vegetarian or vegan? The important thing is that all options, meat and meatless, should be available at all times.”

this doesn't have anything to do with barcelona. why are you crapping on the thread?

It is delicious. I always have a supply at hand. I will bet that large quantities will be eaten in Barcelona on Mondays for the foreseeable future.

If I have guests visiting my house and I have a few hours before they get there I will head to the deli and buy some of their freshly sliced serrano ham and some cheese. It makes good paring with red wine and olives.

I could go Vegan for a day on Spanish food. There are so many tapas that it wouldn't make that big a difference:
Vegetable Empanadillas
Aceitunas--stuffed olives
pinchos de encurtidos--pickled skewers
Mushrooms roasted with oil and stuffed
Patatas Bravas
Papas Arrugadas with mojo sauce.

All good stuff but I would miss the seafood tapas a lot, they are amazing too.

It will mean businesses in the Spanish city that serve or promote meat free eating getting extra encouragement and backing from the authorities to carry on the good work. Officials have pledged to “support vegan and vegetarian commerce, publish a list of affiliated stores and restaurants, and adhere to Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday campaign”.

In his video, Paul asked: “If you heard that meat production was one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, what would you do? Would you just ignore that fact, or would you want to do something and find a solution?” Spurred into action, the capital of the Catalonia region has shown its determination to be on the side of the doers, and will hopefully encourage other cities and regions in Spain to follow suit. It led by example five years ago in terms of commitment to animal welfare, when it banned bullfights and animal circuses.

While there has yet to be any confirmation of what the city’s commitment to Meat Free Monday will look like, Paul’s video message clearly laid out the aims of the campaign: “We encourage people to not eat meat on Monday or any other day of the week … just one day makes a real difference.” Oslo recently announced it would not be serving meat in its city government offices on a Monday, with the scheme rolled out to municipal canteens and schools at a later date. Meanwhile restaurants in Bordeaux will be encouraged to offer meat free menus on the final Tuesday of every month.

Why would anyone want to be so dishonest? If you want to reduce meat consumption, just slap a tax on it and increase the level till consumption falls. ;)

That would be honest and above all, it would be efficient.

duh.

because a carrot works better than a stick. literally.

There is also nothing wrong with eating either ;)

you either don't understand the consequences of the standard american diet, didn't read the original post or both. It's just one day and it is voluntary. No one is going to make you jog or lose weight either. This shouldn't be confusing.

The point is pointless, the world will NOT go vegan no matter how much you want it to.

That's what they said about the anti smoking crowd in the 1960s. You should read the articles from back then. Now it's vegans and meat kills the climateers.

Here I thought you might be visiting Barcelona, and the first thought that occurred to me was: "To visit Barcelona and not eat any of their excellent seafood, would be a sacrilege"! :doh

So now, I can't help but wonder: "Do you make exceptions, for incidents like that I posited above"?

They really do do good fish in Barcelona. But they cook a good goose too.

Miss the point much?

There is some odd irony that a country who runs terrorized bulls through the streets is going meat free once a week. But maybe its just Barcelona.

Yea like I said perhaps Barcelona. in looking at the cities where they do the running of the bulls its not been in Barcelona.
