Let's Talk Spicy

Anyone who has seen my eating habits will tell you that to me...if it isn't burning...it isn't edible. So I have been looking for some good spicy dishes I can make for me and my girlfriend. A kicker: I would like it to be healthy. So does anyone have any dinner/lunch ideas that are healthy and spicy? Maybe even some stuff I can bag?

Ps

I also have some different hot sauces right now, colonel colon cleaner (mustard based), a JT seafood 3 pepper sauce, chipotle tabasco , regular to Tabasco, siracha, butt burner, and an iguana sauce.

PPS

I would also like a dish that can be toned down a little because while I can handle stuff that would kill a mere mortal, my girlfriend is not that crazy about the pain.

You said healthy so this is out of the question. And this would probably kill many mere mortals.

I am not sure how healthy these recipes are but they are easy to make and you can turn down or increase the pepper flakes.

Sadly...I know. But you CAN eat healthy Mexican. Nothing wrong with grilled chicken and fresh veggies on a tortilla

If you cut the tortilla. a tortilla is flour, lard and salt. There is a little Mexican place near my work here that makes the best smothered chile verde. the tortillas are the soft and fluffy.
BUT.. not something you want to eat very often.

I'm fortunate a live just outside one of the largest & most diverse cities in the country and North America for that matter. That area I described has the most culturally diverse zip-code in the U.S., according to a recent census. Ready for this? Forty-seven different languages are spoken as one's primary tongue in that neighborhood! Forty-Seven!!! One zipcode! And it's a small area because it's extremely physically dense and densely populated, literally 1 x 2 miles. That's it; forty-seven native primary languages in only two square miles. And they fit in a Hasidic Jewish community with their Synagogue in there somehow, between the mosques and temples! Crazy!

Check it out. This is one of the wide thoroughfare main streets! The side streets are so tight & crowded as to be nearly impassable by car and impossible to park; this is a pedestrian neighborhood, best reached by cab or public transport.

I like cultural diversity. In makes life more fascinating.

You live in a crowded neighborhood!

Man, here in Texas you would think that you can still get flour tortilla made with lard just about anywhere, but they're harder and harder to find. SAD, very sad.

Thank you, and I agree! But I now very happily live just outside the city, in a very quiet 'burb!

I'm only a few minutes away from that neighborhood though, and often get carryout; I just have to bring a partner in crime so one of us can run in while the other double-parks and tries to avoid a tow!

But if you think that's crowded, some neighborhoods can get even worse (but I love them all!):

I wish I had a picture of my main drag, the area of Kitsilano in Vancouver. The first thing people notice is there are too man y different ethnicities to keep track of, next is the coffee shops and then the restaurants. As I recall we have at least three Indian, two Mexican, four or five different types of Chinese, three sushi bars, two full Japanese restaurants, one Polynesian, two Thai, three medium range and three high end restaurants, one pub and one little MacDonald's way at the west end of the commercial section. We also have five marijuana dispensaries

There's a couple of takeout places near my house that I buy from:

Dak Galbi is a Korean spicy stir fry with chicken and veggies. If you want it really healthy just take the skin off the chicken before cooking.

Fish curry is pretty good too. I eat curry at least once a week.

I'd be right at home! Though I've traditionally been more at home in a neighborhood with corner bars, rather than pot shops. But it's all good.

Did you try Google Image?

do you have a go-to hot wings recipe?

We have a street vendor near us, offering authentic Mexican food. It is nothing like the chain restaurant fair, and depending on the selection, it it can be less caloric (I still wouldn't call it healthy). She makes it as spicy as we want it, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Habanero peppers or jalapenos can be chopped finely and that gives the user the ability to season as desired. Try Thai food, I go to a place that offers spice level from 1 to 10. The highest I had eaten is level 3 and would not dare go higher. I can't imagine what level 10 is like.

I've got a jar of "Red Tail" on my desk. Scorpion Chili powder. Quite powerful. Add to anything. Think it's a blend of the Moruga Scorpion and Trinidad Butch T Scorpion chilis. (2nd and 3rd hottest in world, respectively)

Also have a jar of Carolina Reaper powder. (current world title holder). It is brutal.

And a jar in the fridge of "Magic Plant Farms" Carolina Reaper Mash Puree. You're supposed to use it to make your own sauces but....I just spoon a bit onto the plate and sear my tongue.

Basically, Jalapenos can range from 1,000-10,000 scoville.
The Ghost Chili clocks in 1,000,000-1,200,000
The Scorpion Chilis are generally 1,400,000-1,800,000 (Though I think one particular Moruga topped 2 mil)
And Carolina Reapers are more like 2,000,000

For the serious pepper addict.

For tamer recipes, I keep a big bag of dried Thai Chilis in the spice cabinet.

Dan Dan noodles maybe? If you can find a good place for them or the ingredients. Supposed to be pretty hot when done "authentic." Something I really want to try (had em once but the place Americanized them) someday even though I struggle with heat both ways.

When I lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, an authentic Szechuan restaurant opened. Their Dan-Dan noodles were inedible and I can take some pretty severe heat.

Rather than give you a specific recipe, I would point you in the direction of Thai food!

Spicy hot, usually healthy, light & fulfilling, and works great in warm climates!

Sounds like everything you need!

Yeah, I was thinking about South Asian, too. So, Thai, Indian, or even Persian. There's lot of vegetables, easy to store in tupperware, etc. You can make it light or heavy, depending on the recipe.

I can't wait to try some of this stuff lol

How about simply frying a fish fillet. Preseason as you choose and fry at medium say 350 each side for three to four minutes then garnish with butter and lemon. so simple a kid can do it, if you can fry an egg you can fry a fish. Healthy and tastey.

Most everyone has probably heard of or tasted grilled jalapeño poppers. On more than one occasion I've grilled a couple of racks for a main meal. People put anything and everything in grilled jalapeños. You can make them as healthy or as "unhealthy" as you like.

My wife's spicy meter has a low setting. She knows that for me if my head isn't dripping with perspiration the food isn't spicy enough. Jalapeño poppers on the grill can be as individually hot or not as people prefer. If you cut the ribs and seeds out of a jalapeño you reduce the hot spiciness. Also, the longer the peppers stay on the grill the more the spiciness is reduced. Let them burn a little on the bottom for people who aren't into spicy.

You can get popper grill racks at places like Lowes for $15.00.

Stuffed Jalapeños.
I made bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers for the Super Bowl party stuffed with shredded crab meat, cream cheese, and smoked paprika. If you want to tame it, clean out all the seeds. Want to get the jalapeno, mix the seeds in with the stuffing. Want to kick up the heat, finely dice a little ghost pepper and mix that in with the stuffing. I even did some of them with a brown sugar candied bacon wrap.

Its really easy to make and tastes fantastic.

Habanero salsa.

That stuff is just... dayum. Tasted a couple drops and felt like I could breathe dragon fire.
Take your habanero salsa and blend it with a block of cream cheese. a simple dip but tastes fancy.

You can take any of the pepper oils and make a killer tuna filler for sushi. Add a little sriracha and pepper oil drizzle or cool it down with an umami drizzle. Sushi is actually super easy to make (if you learn how to make the rice properly) and you can do amazing things with it.
