Not Your Father's Root Beer

Tastes like root beer.

When I want root beer, I'll drink root beer.

When I want beer, I'll drink beer.

This almost seems like something designed to entice kids and women.

Not really, seems to lack the cartoons, "joe camel" type packaging.

Good???

Most "regular" beers are in the 4 -6 % abv
Craft beers run from 5-10% abv
Imperial versions can run up to 14% abv

Coors and Budweiser run around 5%

So 6% abv is rather on the high of average for standard beers.

Most wines run in the 10-15% abv

Craft beers run from about 2% and on up, most falling in the 6% range.

Who's had this stuff?

It's such a rage around my area that you can't find it in stores unless you happen to be there the day the shipment comes in.

Sells out immediately.

What's all the hubbub about? Is it really that good?

You can't walk three feet without stumbling into a display here. Not that I am complaining. The stuff is excellent.

2% ????

I know "session" beers are relatively low in abv, but 2%?

What craft beers are down that low?

There are a few milds that can run that low. Though, they aren't really common.

Had some the other weekend.

If you like Root Beer, and you like drinking alcohol, you'll love it. I was shocked how much it tasted like normal root beer you'd get form A&W or Barqs while at the same time having a pretty decent alcohol content.

However some caveats....

It's definitely cloying. You know how Root Beer is kind of a strange bitter sweet (not quite right, but closest I can describe it). Well, this definitely has that jacked up to 11.

It is definitely closer to normal soda root beer than it is to normal microbrewed "beer" that has a little flavoring. If you're looking for an actual hopsy beer taste this isn't it.

I'm not a HUGE root beer fan, so I couldn't do more than one. And they're DEFINITELY better cold than warm. But they're very good for what they are.

just the opposite for me
once it got closer to room temperature it began to have better flavor
but agree about the cloying aftertaste

Tried the "Not Your Father's" brand today. It's pretty good. It basically tastes like root beer flavored dark beer.

Not something I'd want to drink all the time, but it seems to work well as a dessert drink.

Confirmed. This is truly the ONLY way to really enjoy Not Your Father's Root Beer.

I finally tried it the other day and yes, it tasted JUST like root beer. If I hadn't known it had alcohol in it I wouldn't have guessed. Definitely want to try it in a float next.

Finally tried this the other day. Didn't care for it. Too sweet.
