There is an alternative, so I'm told. You can opt to die young. It's too late for me, though.
Now even McDonald's will join in with closing stores and laying people off. Well there goes some more jobs. Pruning the tree they say. Is this a good sign fir our economy? Myself, I can't remember seeing a McDonalds Closed for business. Despite closing stores here in the US. They still say they will open 300 Stores globally. What say ye?
McDonald's plans to close more restaurants in the U.S. than it opens this year, according to the world's biggest hamburger chain. That hasn't happened since at least 1970, according to an Associated Press review of McDonald's regulatory filings. In April, McDonald's said it would close about 700 underperforming locations around the world this year, including in the U.S. CEO Steve Easterbrook, who stepped into the role on March 1, also later laid out plans to restructure the company to remove layers of bureaucracy and move more nimbly.
In any given year, some underperforming McDonald's restaurants will close. But previously, the number of closings has been outweighed by new restaurants that open. Among all fast-food chains, Subway has the most locations in the country with about 27,000 stores, though they do far less business than the typical McDonald's.
And McDonald's is still growing globally. It plans to add about 300 restaurants to its worldwide total of more than 36,000.....snip~

This is a good news/bad news joke.
McDonald's food has been scientifically designed to addict you. The ratio of fat, sugar and salt is calculated to maximize the pleasure receptors in the brain the way way as does marijuana, without the noticeable high. The combination is also idea for fat cell creation. As a result the US is the most obese nation on earth.
The bad news is that McDonalds and the entire self serve industry, Home Depot through to banking, is the largest job market if the nation. Along with new and rapidly advancing automation systems that take humans out of the equation all together we see increasing disinterest.
The second part of that bad news, is that it is class based. Rich people vs poor people. McDonalds is suffering in well healed neighborhoods, like where Starbucks is solid, as people look to new, more healthy and creative fast food. Here, sushi replaces McDonalds, there is one little store and five sushi bars. And day of the week at least two food trucks in a five block strip, Tim Hortons has introduced "heart healthy" and so on.
So America has one less poisoner on the market, but is shedding jobs at an alarming rate. With a half a million illegals entering the country, a moon shot drop out rate, and lack of bright color workers, the future is not a Ronald McDonald party.
FYI - I saw a CBC piece a year ago about a store in Japan, serving food and cheap household goods. Only security, no sales staff. You select the product types on a computer screen, the screen tells you were to get it, the price, mfg web site. You pay of course with plastic. You have to take your own helpers for the big stuff or the screen will alert a free lancer who will charge to help you
and yet McDonald's food isn't so cheap any more. When my wife and I stopped in for lunch, a couple of chicken sans, some fries, drinks, and a smoothie came to over fifteen bucks. They started out selling burgers for 15 cents, drinks for a dime. I used to be able to get lunch there for fifty cents.
Sure, there has been some inflation since then, but that's a pretty steep increase in price. It's still a lot cheaper to cook at home.
[ What say ye?
Why is this in the self-help section? Seems I am missing something
Its in the Food Section. Kind of like when visiting Wally World.

You give McDonald's too much credit.
For what? I never believed in any Happy Meal.
Well eating food is keeping you alive so its a form of self-help after all... :2razz:
But I know people who do. They don't pray to it, but its as close to religious obsession as you can get.....
but then they are, wait for it....... one or two fries short of a happy meal.......
:lamo

That their product qualifies as food.
Well that's good.....I am in with the majority of millions all over the world. Its the Special Sauce. Once you try it.....you will be lovin it!
It is thousand island dressing and mayo.
I'm surprised it has taken this long. Their food is horrible. Every other fast food restaurant out there is superior. Does anyone other than a child eat that stuff and think, "mmm, that is good"?
It is amazing what good marketing can accomplish.
McDonalds was dead to me the day they changed their frying oil for their french fries.
