What's your "comfort food"?

I like to eat well, so I have learned to cook certain dishes. I can't get crayfish at a decent price in TX, so I substitute shrimp in my cajun dishes. I love a good shrimp etouffee. Or, try shrimp mosca, a more Italian version, just google it and you can find the recipe.

Oh heck, here it is: http://moscasrestaurant.com/fresh-seafood-recipes , I peeled my shrimp to make it easier to eat. Mosca's is a solid (out of the way) restaurant in the New Orleans area but a ways out of town. Old school cooking.

Here's a pic of the Shrimp Mosca, which is olive oil based with Italian seasonings instead of the french style which is butter based with onions, bell pepper and celery sauteed.

Interesting.

"Delicious" is the word I use. The peach jam gives it a nice fruitiness that pairs really well with the chicken. Not too strong, just a great "front of the mouth" (that first taste) impression of fruit. It also allows me to reduce the amount of sugar by using the natural sweetness of the jam.
 
Talking about this made me hungry, I went to a real Mexican Taqueria for lunch.
I had some barbacoa tacos that were great.
The wife and I also picked up a pound of lengua for supper.
 
If God made anything better than pizza she kept it to herself.

Man, I'd give anything to have a bushel of tomatoes from southern Italy. Don't know what's in'em, but mmmmmm...mmmmm....mmmmm...I could make ice cream out of'em their so sweet.

I don't think food in Italy could be as good as it is without their tomatoes. I do love some homegrown - and there's some really good tomatoes grown around our area in the Texas Hill Country. But I've yet to have tomatoes like we had in Italy.

But then again, people in Italy ain't never had some good sausage gravy on homemade biscuits about the size of a softball. ;)
 
All of the above. I would also add mac & cheese baked with breadcrumbs with a breadcrumb topping. A corner piece that is somewhat crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside with a little ketchup & pepper.

Western omelet with some really well done home fries (salt, pepper, ketchup), whole wheat buttered toast and a pot of coffee. Pretty much done until dinner, unless its for dinner!

I work with a guy who eats hot sauce, oatmeal and peanut butter every day for breakfast.

Italian Beef is my comfort food. If you're not from Chicago, you've probably never had it.

What's your "comfort food"?

Sometimes, probably more often than I should, I just crave a good burger. And I'm getting away from 'exotic' condiments. A good basic classic type burger will impress me. Bleu cheese and mushrooms and the such are good for an occasional change of pace, but for the most part I just want good quality meat, cheese, bacon, mustard, ketchup, mayo, tomatoes, onions, and pickles (mix and match in any combination, or all of them, depending on my mood at the moment).

The bun must be toasted, too, btw.

I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes, big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer....

Failing that...self made fresh fruit salad, heavy on the citrus with no sugar added.

I'm very "comforted" by roast beef and gravy with mashed potatoes and a salad, but with the price of beef these days, it doesn't happen often enough to suit me! :mrgreen:

My husband would vote with you on that meal, no doubt. He loves the good ole fashioned "complete" meal, as I call it.

As for myself, it's gotta be my Moms mac-n-cheese... The family eats it as a side dish. Blasphemy, IMHO.

Bring me the biggest bowl you can find, and step away from the stove! :mrgreen:

My son feels the same way you do about mac-n-cheese! :thumbs: I had a nice older woman that watched my children while I was at work, and she made what she called "mac-easy." After she boiled the macaroni, drained it, and put it in a serving bowl, she stirred in half a jar of Cheese-Whiz, nuked it for a minute or two, and there was the creamiest mac-n-cheese you ever saw. No baking in the oven, quick and easy, and my kids loved it! It's still one of their favorite meals, and they are all grown up now. Bless that woman, and good cooks everywhere, especially those that make it from scratch, like your mom and my mom did! Yum!

That actually sounds pretty good.

Also sounds kind of like that Kraft Mac & Velveeta you can get in the store. I've always liked that, but it is rich and I can't eat much.
 
Cheese fondue, and only with bread. Nothing better in the world for making me feel good when I'm blue. Don't care that it has thousands of calories in every mouthful either.
 
My comfort food is mexican food. My favorite.

And Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

That seems to be the problem with most of the stuff I consider to be "comfort food". It's all high calorie, high fat stuff.
