the lunch thread

Pizza for supper sounds great. Thanks

I made the mistake of making pizza from scratch, including the crust. Now we can't stand the store bought pizza any more. :(

So much more expensive, though!

Not 'much more' expensive actually. I figure my recipe that makes one extra large pizza--we're talking the really mega size pizza you would get in a pizzeria--with sauce, pepperoni, sausage, and mozzarella cheese costs about $5 to $6 to make. So yeah, if you buy those individual size dollar frozen pizzas on sale at the super market, and it would take four or so of those to equal one of my homemade, I suppose the homemade pizza is more expensive. But then, steak is more expensive than hamburger too. :)

My meatball sandwich is better, and its made with turkey, the gobbling kind.

i like those, too. i've just been trying out meat substitutes in the past couple years. a couple are fairly awesome; morning star has chicken nuggets that honestly taste better than the real thing. i'm also a big fan of their veggie burgers and chicken patties. what i couldn't find was vegetarian cold cuts. finally found them, and except for the color, i couldn't tell that i wasn't eating meat.

i find it kind of cool how far vegetarian meat has come. when i was a kid / teenager, the non-meat alternatives were pretty bad. now they're so close to the real thing that it's somewhat stunning.

Looks like I should give it another try, making sure I can pronounce the ingredients.

Now, your next step is to buy a pan for deep dish pizza. Remember to use a crust the same thickness as a standard crust and simply lay it in to the pan and lift the side to rise up to the sides. Then POUR you ingredients like you would making an apple pie and bake! You will be glad you did!!

Easy ,healthy, quick side dish; one can stewed tomatoes, two sticks celery chopped fine. two teaspoons apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon dark brown sugar, dash of black pepper. Stir it up and let set for 8 hours to blend.

I will probably try that sooner or later. The crust for deep dish pizza is of somewhat different texture than traditional pizza though--at least the way I like it--so I need to explore recipes and technique for that.

Took my youngest daughter to the Tropics for lunch yesterday.

I had a caesar salad, chicken noodle soup, a NY strip, and a double order of fries. And of course a few Buds to wash it down.

She had tacos.

Found out that she dumped George Castanza. I didn't like that guy anyways. She's way out of his league.

How do you figure that turkey is vegan?

Bunch of new restaurants opening at the mall near my place so I had to sop by.

I had house smoked salmon with capers and blini followed by a pork confit sandwich with caramelized onions and fries- the bread was too tough and so the pork spilled onto the plate so I had to use the fork to eat it. The complimentary coffee blend was meh. 5/10

I'll try the new Italian place tomorrow, they said it had a wood fired oven.

So I did have lunch at the new Italian place at the mall. I ordered some deep fried fried zucchini as an appetizer and a Italian pork meatball sub. I was just expecting a small plate of the zucchini since it was an appetizer and was hugely surprised when they served a huge heaping platter of it along with ranch dip- it was enough for 3 people! Luckily I was hungry enough so I ate it all. The sandwich came with a Ceasar salad on the side- the bread was tough and too chewy, what is it with these places and their subpar breads? Ugh. Anyway my total bill was around $11 so good bang for the buck, I'll come back sometime to try their pizzas and pastas- pretty cheap and large helpings so its advantageous to return.

One Slim Jim...actually it was a Jack's Links version.

Between scheduled clients, phone calls and drop-ins I'm hoping to be able to suck down a can of soup later on.
Jack Links is awesome!

Naw, just those of us with German or Austrian roots and/or who like German food. It's pretty simple actually--sautéed seasoned onions and cabbage enclosed inside a good bread dough in the shape of a large roll, and baked until the bread is done. Easy, yummy, and nobody doesn't like them. :)

I have made my own bread dough when I have time, but when I'm in a hurry, Pillsbury hot roll mix makes a really good dough for Bierocks and it is quick and easy.

Sounds great I would stick a cooked bratwurst in there as well.

it was canned, but still pretty good. seemed like a good combo for lunch.

I make my rice in an instant pot pressure cooker, check them out. you cook on a digital timer so it always comes out perfect
