Well ... not a 5K. But close.

Ran my first three miles. Never was any kind of athlete when I was young. In high school, I did band instead of PE. In college I took ballroom dance for my phys-ed requirement. As a middle-aged woman it took quite a long time to build up to my best distance before today, which was 1.6 miles.

I was pretty darn slow when compared to the first thing google has to say about average running speed. But I did a little more digging and found that my 43 minutes for 3 miles was right there in the middle of the pack for 57-year-old women.

Average 5K Time: By Age, Sex, and Tips to Get Faster

And now I have a "personal best" to work from.

P.s., thank you ABBA, for the music. Couldn't have done it without you.

I was just going to point out that 3 miles is a like a sprint. Then I thought 'when was the last time that I ran 3 miles?'

So um great job!

Thanks. I was still proud of myself when I thought I was just flat out slow by any standard ... before I learned I compare okay to other women my age.

Just to be able to do it at all when not so long ago running four blocks would have winded me ... yeah, I feel good.

Thats really awesome.

Congrats. Cardio is an excellent way to keep in shape for middle agers. I run 3 miles on my treadmill every other day too.

Will you start training for your first marathon?

Will you start training for your first marathon?

lol ... I have told myself a firm no to that. I guess I could change my mind later. For now, I'm going to try that "moderation" thing. I hear it's a good thing. :D

Keep at it. It gets easier with time.

4.4 miles three nights ago. During the third mile I was getting sorta cocky and thought maybe I would do a marathon someday. During the fourth mile my feet were screaming no, no, no, no, no. :)

Tonight I found a 1.04 mile path and timed myself. 13 minutes. Will try that path out a coupla times a week. The goal is 10 minutes. Not expecting it to be easy. But will be proud of every improvement.

P.s., still relying on ABBA :)

Congratulations!!! I wish I had the drive. I don't even like the thought of speed walking three miles(not a proud admission).

Thanks. :)

It's all still quite amazing to me because I never thought I'd be where I'd just pop outside and run a mile or two like it was a normal thing. But here I am.
