So I admit I am biased, I come from a place with many fewer boards, so less choices to post in. But with that, and some moderation, also comes alot less redundant threads.

Question for the mods: are you going to be pissed if I start reporting threads for duplication so they can be merged? I often see 2-4 threads talking about the same subject, and sometimes with the same exact titles! There really is no good reason for all of these separate threads to exist in isolation.

(Fyi, here is what I do before posting a thread: I click the "What's New?" tab. If I see a topic remotely related to the one I am about to post, I check it out. If it is the same topic, I do not bother and I begin discussion there. Now, I realize things look different in Tapatalk, but the concept is still the same)

Thoughts?

Please do...I am sick of 'em, too...

Honestly I've been wondering why so many duplicate threads pop up when a simple check can show there is already one on the same topic. I understand two or even three people starting a thread with breaking news, but 2-3-4 hours later someone starts a thread when there is already one with several posts?

Yeah, how long does it take to look to see if the topic has already been posted...SMH...

this is one of my biggest pet peeves about this place, and something I've complained about before. Is there any need for 10 threads on the same flipping topic??

There should only be ONE anti Trump and ONE pro Trump thread allowed per week.
Seriously, if this were to happen, nobody would be posting.

I say, merge similar news stories when possible, and IMO, the mods do a great job of this.
They're not saints, and this forum is free, so stop expecting so much out of those who volunteer their time to make this a pretty decent experience for all.

If we did that then how will Sir Spamsalot and Sir Wallotext get their quotas in?

If you do report a duplicate thread, be sure to provide a link to the first thread, makes life a lot easier.

While duplicates are annoying, if the threads mature and go in different directions before they can be dealt with, it probably doesn't always make sense to merge them.

I report duplicates all the time. I don't get a response, but I usually see the threads merged within an hour. I think they are happy to be told and fix it, but don't have time to hunt 'em all down.

You aren't getting anyone in trouble and you can make the report polite. Always works for me.

I don't think the comment is a reflection on the mods in the least, but instead on the people who start threads without looking if there is already one on the topic.

The mods merge threads all the time. We cant possibly read every thread here, so if you see two threads that are the exact same topic, report them with the links. We get reports almost daily to merge threads. But I can tell you that if the same poster creates multiple threads on the same topic, that could be an issue. Don't create a bigger problem than already exists.
