I want to donate a sum from time to time but am afraid the format will lock me into a monthly donation. Is that that case?

First, thank you for your interest in donating to DP! We greatly appreciate it! :)

Next, no that is not the case unless you choose the one of the two monthly options and then follow the link to PayPal to set up a monthly amount

https://www.debatepolitics.com/payments.php

Look through the other options and click on the drop menus to find correlating amount you would like to donate. The next link will take you to PayPal and you can finish the one time donation.

I hope I explained that clearly.

FYI, I donated with the option to change my user name. 90 days later, I get an email saying my name would expire implying I would have to donate every 90 days. That's a bug you can ignore. Or maybe it's a wondrous 'feature' I just don't get?

I still get those 90 day bugs (emails).

That's because you keep donating every 90 days. When you choose the donation option you have a 90 day window to change your username. At the end of that 90 days, you'll get an e-mail letting you know that you will no longer be able to change your username. Your username won't revert back to what it was when the donation expires, you just won't have the ability to change your username any more.

Yeah, I wanted to donate when I got that "notice" anyway. It's just worded a little strangely given the actual meaning. This past time I did not donate, so I should not get the emails anymore, I presume.

There are several donating options: monthly, single donation with recognition badge, single donation without badge, etc. The one glitch I noticed is that you cannot just donate some random amount, say $100. It makes you donate $50 twice or $25 four times. That sort of thing.

What about those who do not use "paypal" nor want to set up a paypal account?

You can send in a check or money order or cash (I don't suggest sending cash in the mail though) if you don't want to use PayPal, however you can use PayPal without creating a PayPal account.

While this is open, a question: Unless it'd be a pain re: the programming, would it be possible to set up the monthly donations such that once one's monthly donations add up to a total equal to or greater than a silver/gold/platinum one-time donation, they get the same benefits that go with that one-time donation until/unless they cancel their monthly donations?

I ask since it looks like you get 300 private messages for any monthly donation, 2,5,10,20. But, if I were to sign up for $5 monthly, then after a year it'd be $52, but would still have the 300 PM. If I had instead just given a $50 one-time donation, I'd have 1000 PMs and 100mb in the gallery (Not sure what that is, but nvm). Oh, and that email account thing.

It's not a big deal to me I suppose. I don't often use PMs. But perhaps it might be to others, and that's important since the monthly recurring donations are more important (per Red's post from last May).
