I'm frustrated with the organization of the forum and the lack of desire by mods to fix the problem. As I see it, certain issues (like immigration) are tossed to lesser-visited boards (Law and Order over General Political Discussion). The Law and Order Board seems to get far less traffic than General Political Discussion, or so it seems. Furthermore, the separate boards are totally unnecessary, when more sub-boards could be created. I'm left scratching my head on decisions to keep Gun Control as a sub-board on General Political Discussion rather than Law and Order, and then immigration goes in Law and Order over General Political Discussion. This might make sense to mods, but it makes no sense to new people. And then the decision to have an Obamacare sub-board on General Political Discussion as well as Health Care? You guys have tried to justify this, but it honestly makes no sense. you could easily make a Health Care board and then put Obamacare as a Sub-board in it. I really don't get why these big issues can't all be in the same spot. Users are required to make more clicks to get from board to board rather than sub-board to board. Separating these boards is unnecessary and results in less traffic for certain issues. I'm starting to think that the mods here are doing this on purpose in order to push the issues mods want talked about.

I suggest putting all your suggestions in a doc and using the Contact Us option.

Don’t hold back, rook!

I personally like to go fishing for the specific topics to avoid sorting through the catch-all heavy traffic forums when the mood hits me.

I'm frustrated that my feet are so doggone far from my hands. It makes putting socks and shoes on more difficult than it needs to be. However, I've managed to adapt to the situation and it all feels kind of normal now.

The older you get, the farther away they’ll get!

Frankly, I don’t even pay attention to forum titles unless I am posting a thread. Otherwise I just click “New Posts” to see what is going on.

Moderator's Warning:
Actual honest, constructive, feedback and suggestions are fine and we welcome them. With that said, let me make two points clear.

1. We listen to and consider all feedback and suggestions. Sometimes, action related to that is of lower priority than other things. Sometimes, the action may take longer to implement due to technical, time, or other unexpected or assumed issues. And sometimes, we hear your suggestions and feedback but ultimately just don't agree. This forum is not "tell us how YOU demand the forum be ran", it's asking for input. If you expect or want anything beyond simply providing input, I suggest you start your own forum and run it as you like with complete control.

2. The rules still apply in here, and that includes rule 6a. If you can't offer up constructive feedback or suggestions without attacking the moderators then I'd suggest you keep it to yourself. Conspiracy theories of purposeful mod bias or wrong doing is a sure fire way to get your feedback closed and an infraction on your record.

That said, for the moment, Ill leave this open if people want to provide feedback about the forum layout, keeping the above two points in mind.

I like the Basement. I have my own thread down there.

Whoops...sorry.
I'm trying to find the restrooms.

Same here, except for one or two specific forums.

First, please use to use bullet points or some other way to break up the huge block of text. It will make your posts much more readable. I am frustrated with the way you organize and word your complaint.

Immigration is, surprise, a Law and Order issue. It deals specifically with the laws of the US. Gun Control is more of a constitutional and political issue, though I suppose in theory it could be moved, but is fine where it is. The Obamacare section was made back when Obamacare was still in congress, and the biggest topic of the time was Obamacare. It might now be the time to think about merging it with Health Care.

Just because something does not make sense to you does not mean it does not make sense, nor that it was done without a good reason. Do try and understand that DP was not made whole cloth as it is, but kinda grew from a much smaller board. Polite, constructive suggestions about how to organize the board is organized will probably work alot better than whiny blocks of crying. And since I am a nice person, I will show you, with real suggestions I think would be good ideas, how it is done:

To the moderators and admins:

I think the following changes would be beneficial to DP:

  1. Merging Obamacare and Health Care
  2. I think The War On Drugs section should be moved to Law and Order, it seems like a more natural fit.
  3. Bias In The Media I think should be moved to be a subsection of General Politics. It is not really news, and usually is about pundits and op/eds, not news.

Thank you for your consideration.

There is a good point in this wandering paragraph. A lot of the issues that would be good in other forums gets posted in general political discussion, while the other forums languish. It might be a good idea to simply eliminate the general political discussion forum altogether so that the other forums will be used more.

Additionally, I do miss when economics was its own forum instead of being stuffed under academia. It feels like that forum has lost much of the activity that it used to have, but maybe that's just because I'm not posting there very often now.

That's fine, but I wish the mods weren't picking and choosing which topics are to be discussed heavily and which ones lightly.

I would spend more time figuring out exactly how I would organize the boards if the mods committed to changing things first. I'm not going to waste my time solving the problem until they are willing to admit it is a problem. So far, I've seen no such commitment.

They don't pick what can be discussed or how much it can be discussed. There are a few parameters they've placed on certain topics for the purpose of maintaining sanity in those discussions but that's really about it.

Wow, I follow the rules giving honest and constructive feedback and get threatened. This will be the last time I offer a suggestion.

It may very well not be a priority(believe it or not, they do have lots of other things to do), but I can promise you they do consider suggestions on organization, and they are committed to making the board better.

No, they just choose what topics go on the less traveled boards and what topics go on the more traveled boards. It doesn't matter, the mods threatened me for giving my input so I'm not giving suggestions in the future.

I pretty much work solely out of the new posts section, and rarely visit the specific forum
