More than once I have been composing a reply to a post where the reply became lengthy and time consuming. I get the reply proofed and hit ‘Submit’ and the system tells me I have timed out and need to log in again. Usually my reply goes missing, only once was I able to retrieve it. Is there a way to avoid this?

Im lazy....if I know its going to be long, I do it on a word doc, then cut and paste.

Probably not the answer you were looking for though.

I've gotten in the habit of just highlighting and copying my reply to the clipboard before I hit submit in those situations.

Ditto. I'll do it in a word doc first.

I do the same thing, but then found out my point was lost because the idiots i send the replies to could barely comprehend the written word anyway, and they refuse to read or acknowledge anything that goes against their preconceived ideas.

Short blurbs are best on internet forums unless you are communicating with intelligent and polite people no matter what lean.
Then it is a pure pleasure (and refreshing) to communicate with them.
I know you never find many like that past midnight.

Well......I think midnight for you is daytime for me....so, I still find a few.

Do shorter replies, I don’t come here to read a novel

Check the, "Remember Me", box when you log in.

That has happened to me frequently. I try to remember to Copy the post before clicking Submit. I don't always remember, however.

This is interesting. I thought that Remember Me box had only to do with user name and password.
How does this work as regards the OP problem?
So I click Remember Me. Later I take too long to Submit a reply and I'm sent to Log In. I log in. What next?

This feature keeps you logged in. You shouldn't be sent to log in again. I used it just now. I've been gone for hours, but I just click on a link to move my page, and voila. I'm still here. I don't have to log in again.

I was gonna say the same thing...I generally skip over the long winded replies...get to the point...

Most times.....................short will suffice.

Long winded responses are most often based on emotion over facts.

A quick browse through Debate Politics will prove my point.

Long winded replies by Zyphlin, for instance, are some of the best reads on DP. Short-read one-liners, normally full of snark, are worthless ...

The 'Remember Me' button will keep you logged in, though your submission will time out after about 2 hours ...
