Hey guys. Just wondering, is something weird going on? The last couple weeks, I am suddenly seeing a TON of spam posts/invalid threads (which I assume are deleted spam posts).

Has DP been targeted or something?
 
Yes, we have been getting a bunch of spam threads. It's annoying as hell.

It's got to be a bot. But what's the point? An intriguing thread title and nothing. I don't even know how they can do it since I doubt WE can just post a thread title...

One could sometimes prefer to believe the posts were from bots. ;)

It's probably a botnet paid to drop links.

The spam content is not in the phony post. It's in their profile.
 
I hope the government comes up with some good answer better than they did protecting us from terrorist's crawling through our mouse's by tacking the UIGEA onto The Port Security Act at the eleventh hour which prevents me from playing poker online with my own money in this here land of the free...next thing you know maybe it could be Putin who could steal it...I feel safer already

Personally, I kind of view much of this as a spectator sport in that my involvement with the internet is rather limited...but I see the kids and grandkids whose lives somewhat revolve around it. I'm not saying there aren't really cool things that it is good for...just coming from an old fashioned stance and a belief that the downfall of our society was at least contributed to with the advent of the telephone answering machine.

The world evolves and you Millennials are in for exciting times and I would no doubt see things differently if I were part of that group or even GenX but I've had my adventure and don't feel any loss in minimally adapting.

The internet is an awesome tool that could also become the blob that ate so-called free societies.
 
But the Internet has also contributed greatly to the democratization of information. Sigh, irony.
 
Perhaps CAPTCHA needs to be strengthened/updated?
