The rules ought to be changed regarding insults to public figures to make a more consistent policy.

Its an infraction to insult a public figure of a protected group but perfectly fine to insult someone who isnt

Like call Trump a cockholster and thats 100% okay, call Barney Frank one and that would be an infraction

Call Trump an orangutan thats cool, call Obama a monkey and that's an infraction

You want some cheese with that whine?

We treat those who sign up to serve horribly, then we scratch our heads wondering why they are mostly low quality.

We are none too bright.

Barney Frank is old. Obama was a major disappointment.

See, you can insult both of them.

I wouldnt consider stating a fact about Barney Frank or giving your opinion of the Obama presidency an insult but thats besides the point. The same type of insults that are okay to sling at one politician arent okay to sling at another who has a protected status regardless of their political affiliation. I just think a little consistency in the policy would be good,

Do you seriously believe that calling Trump an orangutan and calling Obama a monkey are comparable?

When will "conservatives" learn that context matters.

South Park? Really?
Libertarian theology is best confined to cartoons. Too simplistic for adult politics.

Actually yes. I know that monkey is used a racial slur to denigrate the entire black race by calling them sub-human. While orangutan doesnt denigrate an entire race it is still used to suggest that Trump is a sub-human. So yes both insults play on their skin color and also serve to insult their intelligence so much as to value them as sub-humans.

Yeah I asked that question fully knowing what the answer would be.

More cheese?

I wasn't aware it operated like that.
Must be because I don't go around slinging such insults.

But I will note that slinging such insults at public figures is neither civil nor beneficial to debate.

So how about this for a suggested rule change.

You can insult any public figure you like and in return the membership may address you the same way (without infraction) in that specific thread without you being able to respond in-kind.

That may just start getting people to behave in accordance with the DP's statement of; "Political bias optional, civility a MUST!"

Funny how you Cons always seek to change the rules whenever you are being beaten.

Here are some points to remember:

1) You can insult any public figure. There are no limits on that. The only people you cannot insult are other members.
2) Your insults cannot, however violate any other rule at DP. For example, if you call a gay public figure a "homo" that violates DP's Slur rule. You can, of course, call a gay public figure a low life piece of garbage, if you choose. Remember... the Slur Rule applies to anyone, public figure or not. If you refer to some random gay person as a "homo" you will receive the same violation as if you call a public figure that. There is no distinction.
3) The rules will not be changed regarding this since we are actually discussing two different rules. The Slur Rule applies to anyone, public figures or not. The insult rule only applies to members.

I hope that clears things up.

Question answered, thread closed.
