European Union experts expressed fears the Brexit vote would result in further internal division once the UK stopped playing the role of moderator between the members states and Brussels. The fierce opposition of some members to the coronavirus rescue package the European Commission proposed to help ailing countries foreshadows further splintering to come, according to Erik Kirschbaum.

Didn't they just agree to a trillion dollar bailout for the poor EU countries?

Wow, those guys are on the ball if they've only just noticed that Brexit happened.

apart from your propensity to confuse DP with a bill-boarding site, you might at least stop spamming it with crap from an obscure Indian website that has nothing to do with ABC, despite wanting to pretend it does.

One has to smile at the repetitious and regular English malcontents who predict the end of the European Union (EU). Far from being mediators between the European Commission and all the unhappy member states which hate being in the Union, it is the English who tried to undermine the EU from within with all their rude moaning at the European Parliament and their push for EU enlargement to the point of unmanageability, even championing entry of Turkey. Most of the English older generation were encouraged by their right-wing newspapers and little-Englanders to have a negative attitude toward an ever closer political union and seemed to prefer to roll back the EU to become a European Economic Community once again. That was never going to happen and it is dawning on the English that they are very isolated after their daft vote with a wafer thin majority to leave. They did not bring Czechia with them, nor Hungary, nor Poland, etc. Although I feel sad for the youth in England as well as the Scottish who voted to remain, on the whole it is probably a good thing as the most destructive member state is now gone and Europe can get on with business for the good of all our citizens.

One has to smile at posts like this which contains lots of slurs, but few facts, and which place all the blame for "undermining the EU" on the UK. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The results of a respected survey (Pew Research Centre) on opinions of EU citizens shows that the biggest advantage (74%) to most members is that the EU promotes peace.

After two World Wars devastated mainland Europe, it is quite obvious that most citizens feel that the EU will make another war amongst European states less likely. I agree with this thinking.

On the EU itself 62% felt that the EU does not understand the needs of its citizens and 54% felt that the EU is inefficient. Most felt the EU was intrusive and only 55% felt that it promoted prosperity.

"Many are also worried about the economic future. Across these 10 nations, a median of 58% believe that when children in their country grow up, they will be worse off financially than their parents; only 30% think they will be better off."

Not a great picture of happiness by any means.

So what? Most people think their governments are inefficient. You mean all the English think Whitehall is efficient and promotes prosperity? Ha! Give us a break. So the people in Yorkshire think Westminster is not out of touch. Ha! Ha! You people are a laugh a minute with your polls and surveys as if it makes a difference.

I just prefer comprehensive survey results to bigoted opinions like yours.

And what exactly do you mean by "you people"?. I don't live in the UK.

I mean Eurosceptics of course. Geez!

Why "of course"?

Your rant mentions the "English" several times and "little Englanders" once and begins with "One has to smile at the repetitious and regular English malcontents who predict the end of the European Union (EU)."

It is quite obvious that it is English eurosceptics that are the reason for your obvious bitterness and that huge chip on your shoulder.

Without question, English Eurosceptics have the most to answer for with Brexit, the topic of this thread. Although they attempted to spread their poison to the other 27 member states, they have met with failure. With regularity the English conservative 'newspapers' predict the collapse of the European Union (EU) and happily carry articles written by a Greek economist here or a Hungarian nationalist there which foresee the demise of the Union. The English prime minister made a living at one stage mocking the EU in his Daily Telegraph columns. These people are a known breed.

Presently we have Nigel Farage bigging up the Italexit party, riding high with 5% of the vote and a leader too wacky even for Five Star: Italexit SURGE: EU on alert as Farage inspires new party | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

With the balanced sensible attitude of the British gone from the EU it is almost certainly doomed...make your escape plans now.

London has actually given Scottish independence movement a boost by now.

But why blame the English, if as you admit, Greek economists and Hungarians etc also admit that the EU is failing and the respected survey I quoted from the Pew Research Centre (a US organisation) produces results which show that 62% of people in the EU feel that the EU does not understand the needs of its citizens, 54% felt that the EU is inefficient, most felt the EU was intrusive and only 55% felt that it promoted prosperity. A median of 58% believe that when children in their country grow up, they will be worse off financially than their parents; only 30% think they will be better off.

The main benefit shown by the survey, appears to be that the EU promotes peace and security. Most EU states have been invaded by the two most powerful EU states, France and Germany, in the past two centuries or so, with horrific consequences, so one can hardly blame them for seeing huge benefit in such a Union.

The UK has not been invaded and, conversely, played a large part in freeing those states who were oppressed. They don't share the fears of other EU states regarding future invasion.

The "English" appear to be fully justified in their scepticism of the EU. Perhaps that chip on your shoulder regarding the "English" should be attended to.
