More likely that Hungary and Poland becoming fascist states that undermine the ethos of the EU and kill it from paralysis is more likely to than coronavirus ever will.
With the mills of cohesion (among other member states) running as slow as always, sanctioning these "rogues" is going to be like pulling teeth. But unless they simmer down in their nationalistic and egotistical fervor, it'll eventually happen.
Alone to demonstrate to others of equal "ambition" that the tail won't be allowed to wag the dog.
Of greater concern currently is the (ever repeating) bitchfest over lacking solidarity. With the indignant demand for the creation of "Corona-bonds" by those that have ruined their credit-rating thru profligate "debting", being countered by those whose rating is higher by more sensible fiscal policy, and who, understandably, refuse to guarantee the additional borrowing of the "irresponsible" spend-thrifts. Let alone let them profit from interest rates that they had no hand in creating, while such socialization of debt would cause the others to have to pay higher rates.
It's a repeat of the "Eurobonds" clamor of 2008 and, just as then, each side is accusing the other of selfishness. In which both are somewhat correct but the mud-throwing isn't going to address the underlying problem.
The price of not having established a common economic and fiscal policy with all the regulations required for that to work, all on account of every individual member state indignantly demanding that its independence remain untouched on this and other fields.
The ailing incidentally always having led the way in that latter demand, so as to protect themselves from being spanked for having gone broke before the end of the month.
Singing "Money for nothing and the chicks for free" while the rest of the band turns off the mics.
I believe the EU is in a much better position to recover - it hasn't outsourced all manufacture to China. Germany is very manufacturing oriented while we (the UK) are a services and consumer led economy.
One thing that's become apparent to even the most profit-crazed is that a mono-culture by which the production of "cheap" is left to China and others, is that it's an abdication of autonomy. As such the current lack of production facilities for "real" face masks, protective gowns and goggles is an absurdity that cannot remain.
The pharmaceutical sector being of equally untenable condition.
