the UK under Lock Down

He has to leave room to blame us for not following their crazy instructions. It's now permissible to go to the pub and mix with a group of strangers, but not have your own family visit with you in your own home!
I'd be surprised if anyone was surprised by this.

The incompetence which this bunch of clowns has displayed from the very beginning was hardly likely to find betterment.

Upside being that they do not disappoint, but that's a fat load of good when their die-hard supporters refuse to be disappointed as well.

A brief update of the current state of play.

The only viable way that I can see us getting on top of this virus is by quick, reliable, and affordable testing available on every high street, airport, train station, etc.

The whole mask requirement stumps me, because it's clear there's no vaccine coming anytime soon, seeing as there isn't one yet for the other viruses out there, plus there's various mutations that seem to be baffling scientists.

So are masks forever now, is wearing a mask for the rest of our lives the new normal?

Only when people are around!

I don't want to depress anyone but here's a slice of British life.

I reached number 7 and gave up before I explode!
I was exploding by the time I got to No. 29 but then took solace in clearly doing something right as advised in No. 30.

As if thing's weren't bad enough, today we had the hottest day of the summer so far!

Same predicted for tomorrow here at 40 deg C.

Even for the coastal area here that's high, while not uncommon further inland in Cordoba and Sevilla.

Did my long due shopping today (35 deg C) and the face mask was hot enough already, so I'm glad I don't have to run around with it tomorrow.

Hmmm only hit 28 degrees on my side, but humidity was high as hell so felt like 35. Got my shopping done as well...

On masks, saw one guy without a mask today and of course he was British... Hoped the cops busted him. Else masks have become part of public life here.

Now in Denmark, the health guys recommend masks on public transport so of course its gone all political with the far left wanting free masks for the poor to the right moaning about masks... And people hoarding masks is also a problem....sigh...might have to send some packets home to the family..

While temperature became a bit more pleasant here after sunset, they started soaring in the night round about the time of your above post, with a hot wind increasing from the North. Feels like the "terral" that normally misses me. From what I can gather an African hot front that went West to over the Atlantic and is now circling in clockwise over Western Europe (UK included).

Yeah, everyone I saw on the coast today wore one, inside of places or out on the streets. And where out on the streets many would pull them down to under their noses (understandable with these temperatures) they pulled them back up once they got near to anyone.

The supermarket this way no longer have guards to "remind" people but it no longer seems necessary either. Good thing being dispensers of disinfectant liquid installed at the entrances and I saw EVERYBODY making use of them, even if they had to form a queue. In which ALL maintained the proper distance even with face masks on.

Good people!!

Yeah, I bought a couple of packets of masks, once they became more readily available here. Not because I feared another coming shortage but because it saves me having to wash the single home-made one every time I return from an outing. I can just disinfect the used ones with more leisure.

I still have practically a whole package of nitril gloves, used (before this) on dirt work like painting or fiddling with greasy car components. I put those on before entering anywhere and first douse them in disinfectant (my own or what is supplied).

Yep hit me late last night. Temp did not go below 28 or so and it is 36 now.. still got a few hours before reaching max. Sux!

Yep I am impressed. And lets be frank, it shows in the infection numbers. While Andalusia had over 100 new cases yesterday, we are talking about a population of millions. Also most of the infection spikes here seem to be linked to the more conservative areas of Andalusia... Cordoba and Granada, which is odd. Then again, the nutso conservative areas near Cadiz are just fine so..

predicted to be the same tomorrow and not gradually easing off until during Monday (if predictions can be believed).

Fortunately I could get my A/C repaired and re-gassed last week (a "fuga" had let everything out) so it'll be an indoor weekend for me.

Yeah, puzzling.

I can only speculate that Atlantic winds blow more thru any Cadiz crowds. Once had to go to Cordoba on business in August and really thought I'd die any second. Only air movement occurring when one cut it with a knife. Better said, with hammer and chisel.
