Spain under lock down

I'm in contact with a friend along the coast, and he told me earlier that his local mini-market is fully stocked, and they are actually doing buy one get one half price, and other various offers on some items.

Meanwhile in the UK there are still queues and most of the goodies are gone.

I'm in the wrong place!

~...................I'm in the wrong place!
actually (and from what I get to hear) the place to be where medical treatment is concerned appears to be Germany.

So far.

By comparison everyone else in Europe is worse off.

A slight glimmer for you guys!

"Spain has seen a sharp rise in the number of deaths caused by coronavirus but the rate of new infections is stabilising"

Coronavirus: Deaths rise sharply in Spain while infection rate stabilises - BBC News

In the same piece of news -

"Meanwhile, the health ministry said some 9,000 rapid diagnostic tests imported from China through a Spanish company had proved defective. It said the kits had European approval and their use had been suspended."

You couldn't make it up!

Started watching Turkish TV series on Netflix...thats how bored I am getting. This weather is driving me nuts. So much to do around the house, but it is outside grr.

As for the situation in Spain. There is a story about the Madrid man who fled to Malaga with his handicapped brother. The man had Covid and died, but his brother was locked in the same house with his dead body for days and is now also infected.

They're on one of the Spanish terrestrial channels too (can't remember which one) and have me reaching for the remote immediately. Jeez, what a bore.

I've reduced to inside things but need to saw and sand and wait for a window of dryness to do that outside. Much to and fro as the clouds look more threatening or less.

diabetic from what I've heard. Complicating factor.

Seems relatives in Madrid raised the alarm when they couldn't contact the two for days and the local police went to have a look.

Actually not bad series. The Protector on Netflix. Also saw a English-Turkish series about the fall of Constantinople...very good and highly recommended.

I have stuff to do inside but looking at the weather prediction has me wanting to stretch it out..or I am just lazy as hell.

Sunday (only) should show a brief respite but every outside work (house, retaining walls etc.) will take more than just one day. So I'm leaving it at least til May.

The Turkish series on "Divinity Channel" (I think) is corny love story type crap. I'm not on Netflix but if this carries on, might waver.

Hey first month is free... just saying!

Gubmint here has ordered all non-essential businesses to close. That means more workers precluded from going to work.

Which non-essentials businesses were still working?

There was no restriction on going to work. There was restrictions on what work that could be done...for example most shops were closed. But office workers could go if needed and construction workers and such.

Now it is down to a specific pre defined industries. Sucks because I am getting a builder tomorrow to fix my roof, but sure if he will show up.

I'm guessing that the only building work will be town hall related, such as infrastructure maintenance, or perhaps emergency works for domestic residences.

Makes sense really.

On a sad note, my friend's dad has caught the virus, in the hospital, not outside. He's in his late '80s, a smoker, underlying issues - it's going to be a horrible week waiting to see how the symptoms progress.

absolutely horrific whats happening in Spain & Italy as a European my heart goes out to all those suffering from this dreadful disease and we face the same if not worse in the coming weeks in the British isles as we wasted the 2 month window

Wouldn't entertain any hopes on that one, seeing how my Spanish builder friend just told me that everything stops for him tomorrow.

Yeah, sucks.

Well I am a little hopeful as it is an emergency since one of my wooden things (dunno what they are called in English) holding up the roof has broken....the problem of having a 200 year old house. Atm the area is supported by some metal and wood supports, so it should hold but would like a more robust support in place till the crisis is over and it can be fixed. A bit worried about the alerted downpours coming on Tuesday and yes there is a hole in the roof because of this collapse.. Small but it is there. Thankfully I basically have 2 roofs so the main house is safe kinda, but still.

I believe you're speaking of a roof beam

if you're going to declare an emergency (dunno if the possibility exists in these times) I wouldn't officially let on about having that (bolded) alternative. And I mean with any source of authority that might or might not grant an exemption, not the builder.

Yeah it sucks but OTH drawing demarcation lines in zig-zag would suck too.

But still, good luck, hope it can all be solved.

Yea a roof beam.. and it is an emergency but it is under control.. we shall see if he pops in at 9 tomorrow. The worst area is at the moment underpinned by steel so it aint moving.

I have happy memories of my Air Force days at Aviano. My thoughts often are of my Italian friends these sad days. Stay strong Italy.

No roofer today as expected.

Good news is that the infection rate is down for the 3 day in a row and the death rate is down as well. Here is hoping it continues.

Freaking torrential rain today. Bus services cut even more since no one was using them. Waiting todays numbers and hoping for the best.

~Waiting todays numbers and hoping for the best ~

This could be yesterday's figures but the BBC website states Spain records highest number of fatalities in a single day - 849
