"The Frugal Four"

Maybe the spendthrift "partners" that demand their subsidies be raised even further while refusing cooperation in all kinds of fields should be given a swift kick up the behind.

What financial hole? The net contribution by the UK was around 7 to 9 billion Euros depending on the calculation method. Hardly a massive amount of money to find among 27 countries.

The debate on the budget is about those that want to spend more and those that want to spend the same or less. It is the same discussion the EU has every time a new budget is needed.

To be more precise, it's about those that are paying for everybody and those that are spending while paying nothing.

7 to 9 billion Euros a year over the period of the next budget and yes, it's the same discussion everytime a new budget is needed. This time, we're on the outside. One thing I find "funny" now is the debate over foreign aid - I suspect it's Daily Mail readers on the BBC comments section complaining that no aid is going to come to us now we're heavily flooded across the UK...

I pointed out that if we had remained, we could have called on DREF funding from the EU - not that we've ever really applied for funding to help with flood disasters here.
