The letter states that his UK passport “should not have been issued”, on the basis that he naturalised with an identity that “conflicts [his] true identity”. It states that he said he was born in 1986 and born in Serbia, but the Home Office believes he was born in 1985 in Albania.

When he sorts this out, he can sort himself out...

“I could have at least had some warning at the airport before leaving to say I might face some trouble coming back. Any reasonable person would expect that. There are no words for it. It’s a huge shock, especially coming from a great country like England. It doesn’t seem real.”

Britain used to be better. Now? Not so much.

Are you all complaining becasue a person has been inconvenienced becasue their passport is no longer valid?
Really?

Fatush Lala, who has lived in UK for 20 years with British citizenship, stranded in Brussels after Home Office revokes passport with no warning – rendering him stateless

I'm confused.

Mr Lala, who was born in Serbia but moved to the UK as a teenager and naturalised, said he went to the UK embassy in Belgium to seek help, only to be told his British passport – the only one he has ever owned – was no longer valid and have it confiscated from him, leaving him stateless...

If someone is an actual "citizen" and not just a "resident alien" EU citizen, then there should be no problem having this cleared up fairly quickly.

It seems to me that if he was "naturalized" there would be citizenship paperwork filed to that effect.

Perhaps it would help if you explained the problem as you see it? I honestly don't understand how a British citizen would be denied entry.

So you are complaining over an inconvenience. Figures.
And stop mimicking what's being reported and actually look at what occurred.

It provides no explanation as to how the Home Office obtained this information but states that he must not use the document for travel.

That doesn't leave him stateless.

It does leave him stateless. He has no passport and is citizen of no country.

I thought the "Home Office" was just a Letterman thing.

Have you read the entire article?
Of course I have. Have you? Or are you just focusing on the claim he was born in Albania and not Serbia? Why do you belive the Home Office over him? Let me remind you the Home Office in the UK has a horrible record of abuse of power and mistakes.

Why did the Home office not inform him about any investigation? Why yank his citizenship knowing he has no other citizenship? That is against the law btw in pretty much every country.

And finally, the Home Office sent the notification to the wrong addres, which means they did not send it via registered mail since the Post Office can't release registered mail without ID. That alone is suspicious as hell.

This man is not a terrorist or criminal, but a British citizen that has had his citizenship revoked without any due process...and that is a huge problem for any society.

Why do you believe him over the Home Office? I could also remind you that certain "British Citizens" have a horrible record of abusing the system.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem to prove he was born in 1986 in Serbia, and not in 1985 in Albania. When he does, the HO will have to return his passport.

Admittedly the situation has been handled poorly. He should be allowed back into the UK pending the clarification of the HO accusation. He has the right to challenge their decision.

Since you seem quite passionate about the guys situation, I'm sure you'll be willing to dig deep and help!

Fundraiser by Zosia Rozanska : Help Fatush Lala,

Why the tough guy projection confusion?

I would donate generously to the gofundme fundraiser.

Your cavalier responses in this thread say more about you than they do about Mr. Lala.

That doesn't really make much sense, but I'll bare it in mind.

Now, shall we debate about the thread topic, or do you prefer to debate about how I debate?

I thought the EU was a utopia, how come they dont take care of him?

In this case I tend do believe the Home Office! :)
