Well, should Netflix change the map in its documentary ?

"Poland's prime minister has written to streaming company Netflix insisting on changes to The Devil Next Door, a documentary about the Nazi death camps.

Mateusz Morawiecki said a map shown in the series locates the death camps within modern-day Poland's borders....More than five million Poles were killed during World War Two, including up to three million Jews who were murdered in the Nazi Holocaust. The death camps were planned and operated by occupying German SS units.

There were, however, some Polish atrocities against Jews and other civilians during and after the war.

In 1941, Polish villagers in Jedwabne, perhaps at the instigation of the Nazis, rounded up more than 300 of their Jewish neighbours and burned them alive in a barn.

Well, the camps ARE within modern Poland. If they don't like that, I suppose they could give the territory to Germany.

I’ve only seen the static image in the article and it very much depends on the context it was presented in. The Polish government does seem to be very sensitive in recent years about WW2 atrocities being attributed to Poland or Polish people generically and I think they have some valid justification for that. There were atrocities committed by some Polish people but then there will have been atrocities by people of pretty much every European nationality. After all, Hitler was Austrian but nobody associates Austria with what he did.
So, possibly an unfair overreaction but no harm in the producers at least looking in to the content and making sure the full context is clear to the viewers.

Why wouldn't we associate Austria with what Hitler did? Austria was just as complicit in massacring the Jews. The only difference is, they don't own up to it.

Because countries are abstract concepts that don’t do anything, dotted lines on maps defining particular areas of land.

The only people countries hurt are sky-divers whose parachutes fail (and even that could be called self-defence).

If a country can hurt a skydiver then by definition it is not an abstract concept but a physical entity. It is also inhabited by physical people and has a physical history, which involves perpetrating the Holocaust.

Pretty soon no one will be responsible for the Death Camps except the last 90-year old "guard" arrested for some atrocity he was probably too young to understand and nowhere near when it happened. I do not believe I am joking.
