European Union Demonizes Bolsonaro But Supports Cuban dictatorship

Life in Brazil is generally free and the typical Brazilian lives FAR better than the typical person in Cuba.

European Union Demonizes Bolsonaro But Supports Cuban dictatorship

Cuba imprisoned and detained hundreds of activists to clear any signs of discontent from the streets of Havana ahead of the visit of European Union diplomats. Although Cuba has constantly perpetuated abuse against the civilian population, the European Union moved forward with its agenda.

“Cuba is a crucial partner for us because it can serve as a bridge between the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean,” the E.U. said.

The country to which the E.U. refers to as a bridge is one from which more than two million people have escaped, and of them, about 83,000 have died due to drowning coastal guard pressure hose and/or devoured by sharks.
Europe fosters poverty in the region, not prosperity
Thus it was exposed that an ideological compass guides this political-economic bloc. In contrast, just a few days ago, the nations of Europe – one by one – disassociated themselves from Brazil because of the fires in the Amazon forest and questioned the ratification of the European Union’s agreement with Mercosur, the bloc of South American countries.

Brazil is bigger than all of Europe, thus presenting a fierce competition for European markets, especially in the agricultural sector.

On the other hand, Cuba is unproductive, and Europe can reap the fruits of its investments in that country without any reprisal.

I do not agree with the EU policies towards Cuba but I do agree with the EU policies towards that Tin Pot dictator racist asswipe in Brazil.

    From your post:

Maybe in land size but in the economic size it is nowhere near the EU. The EU has more than 500 million inhabitants. The GDP of Brazil is just a bit more than twice that of my country, the Netherlands even though we are more than 20 times less inhabitants than Brazil and I will not even look at land size because we are about the size of a spec of sand on the globe if you look at one.

We do not dislike Brazil because they "compete with the EU" but because they are a terribly led country. They were terrible under Luna and they are even worse now. And we do not demonize, we correctly criticize that idiot Bolsonaro.

Re: European Union Demonizes Bolsonaro But Supports Cuban dictatorship

Cuba has always been the country of the Latin American leadership elite and the key to the southern hemisphere south of the USA. Hence the USA OTT focus on Cuba during the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 with Soviet Russia.

Brazil is an outlier country of language, population and culture south of the USA border. This has always been so. The stepchild of South America.

At the June G-20 meeting in Japan Brazil Pres. Jair Bolsonaro called off his one on one meeting with Xi Jinpingpong after Xi kept him waiting 25 minutes past the appointed time.

“The Chinese can buy in Brazil, but they can’t buy Brazil,” the president said at a breakfast with journalists in April. Vice-President Hamilton Mourao said in May that pragmatism was needed for the health of Brazil’s economy. In short, Bolsanaro is tight with Trump not Xi. VP Mourao is tight with Xi not Trump. Xi's true sweetheart Brazil former president Dilma Rousseff was impeached and removed from the presidency. So Xi got jilted and now he's getting hassled by Bolsanaro.

Beijing is Brazil's number one trading partner which neither Bolsanaro nor Trump likes, soybeans and iron ore in particular. Bolsanaro has a long scheduled trip to China next month. I'd bet Xi shows up on time for Bolsanaro at this one.

Remember the Brics? They fell long ago. Crumbled and toppled right over they did.

Brazil will host a meaningless meeting of Brics in Brazil in November that Xi will attend and I'll bet Xi is on time for this one too. The Brics development bank the American Conservative Right sang the praises of years ago went bust long ago for lack of capital. India has since become a strategic partner of the US with mutual use of each country's military bases. China had to increase its meat imports from Brazil this year because of the swine plague that killed masses of pigs in China -- most hayseed Chinese farmers threw tens of thousands of pig carcasses into rivers same as they have always done.

    And so on.

EU is meanwhile going where it matters, ie, Cuba.

I've never heard of your OP source (Panam Post) nor Mamela Fiallo Flor.

"You'll never know who the winner is, but the winner's going to be me." President Trump on 8/5/2020

Vote for Joe Biden and all Democrat candidates on November 3.
