The moment he stepped outside the house, though, two men dressed in plain clothes approached him and identified themselves as police officers.

Rogue Valley:

Meh. Metsava and Volin made really bad choices and then sold Estonian state secrets and allied-state secrets to Russia. They cut deals to testify against their former Russia handlers. Nothing heroic here by my reckoning, just stupidity compounded by greed and treason.

I don't have to tell a worldly soul like yourself that this is how the dirty world of espionage is conducted by both East and West, to use old Cold War idioms, so our side is no better than theirs in their methods of recruitment.
