[W:35]Nigel Farage faces ban from EU parliament for failure to declare gifts

Re: Nigel Farage faces ban from EU parliament for failure to declare gifts

shrug... Show me they've investigated the source and have found it to be credible. Then I'll support their demands upon Farage. But don't ask me to make assumptions. I've already seen how unverified media articles have been used to initiate investigations. I've seen them result in nothing but harassment and enormous costs in terms of money and time. Like I said, we've seen how they've been used against Trump and others.

Ahhh the 'horrors' you've seen...

How about you wait until the grifter appears to hear/discuss the charges...

Now I know the new rabid right rant is 'unverified' and 'result in nothing' but reminds us all... how many tRump officials have been found guilty, or resigned during this 'result in nothing'????

Hell's bells man, even tRump's team thought Mueller would find collusion- you do remember Giuliani's 'collusion isn't a crime' crap???

Fact is only because tRumps pawns sacrificed themselves blocking a series of attempts to coordinate with the Russians does tRump claim any sort of validation.

But one thing for sure, like Watergate, while the pawns go to jail, the boss gets hung up in obstruction...

Al Capone didn't go to prison for the dozens of murders he ordered, he went for tax evasion... :peace

Re: Nigel Farage faces ban from EU parliament for failure to declare gifts

They don't need your permission, or Farrago's. I hope they stop his pay while he's suspended too. He's earned 2 million dollars from his MEP scam and barely turned up except to deliver the occasional harangue the EU parliament and screw his expenses to the max. No wonder he gets on with Trump apart from sharing handlers, they're both grifters.

Now be fair, there are a couple of other MEPs who have worse attendance records... all from the UK and UKIP, so...

There's actually quite number of them from other EU countries as well.

Just saying.

I vaguely recall he was second only to a MEP with terminal cancer, on chemotherapy and radiation.

Goodness! He's far better than I thought! Still appalling. mind you.

Aye, Denmark had some bad ones... dragging down our overall numbers. Of course they are now out of a job, or/and had to pay back thousands of euros in miss-used funds... but hey!

Well he had to go there to meet his Russian handlers after all..

Remember, innocence before proven guilt isn't a maxim in the EU (or US, it seems).

Oh he is innocent until proven guilty, but since the evidence of money and gifts are a matter of public record and that he has been convicted of similar failings before, then there is a bigger chance of guilt than innocence.

His excuse that accepting half a million dollars "because he intended to retire from politics" is acceptable, doesn't wash, since he remained an MEP until this year, and started his "new" party (first registered domain name 2016, before the "gifts") Then there's the murky question of where his benefactor got the money from. Mercer or the Russians?

Re: Nigel Farage faces ban from EU parliament for failure to declare gifts

His primary activities in the past (in either Brussels or Strasbourg) consisted of drinking champagne and going to the golf course anyway.

But that aside, the EU does not concern itself with his standing in the public eye (nor should it), it concerns itself with how or how not its rules and laws are abided by.

Bolding added by me for emphasis.

Very interesting phrasing there, are you a lawyer?

Selective enforcement of the rules of the EU and the code of conduct of the European Parliament is an issue in Europe and has been for years. I apologise for the length of the document linked below but it is chock-full of examples of both.

Fortunately I only sometimes sound like one.

I agree on it being an issue but that issue does not concern the Farage item.

Chance of guilt doesn't equal guilt...as far as I know. Again, the EU doesn't believe in innocence before guilt and, it seems, the US doesn't either.

Re: Nigel Farage faces ban from EU parliament for failure to declare gifts

Meh. This prosecution will likely backfire on the European Parliament leadership since the ban can only be for one month if I understand the rules, while the boost to Farage's reputation as a victim of a hostile European elite and institution will persist long after the month is over among committed Brexiteers and those sitting on the fence but Brexit inclined. Better to let him into the European Parliament and then pepper him with unending questions about these alleged gifts so that he can get very little Brexiting done. If there is a capacity to force a re-election vote in Farage's electoral borough(?)/district, then following this course might be worth it, but thirty days will just give him the cache of mild maryrdom for no real gain.

Cheers.

I’d say go for the ban. Popularity shouldnt prevent us from enforcing the rules.
