Provisional results from the Dutch European elections

Takeaways so far from the EU elections 2019

    1. the vote was up from 2014, not a terribly large increase but still more than 5 years ago

    2. it was a bad electoral result for the anti-EU parties, more about that in a later "takeaway" point

    3. the battle for first between the VVD and the FVD (Baudet) did not come to fruition, no matter how badly the media (especially the conservative media) tried to spin it that way because takeaway 4 learns us

    4. IT WAS LABOR who was the run away winner so far. According to the NOS exit poll the PvdA (Dutch labor party) has become the largest with 5 seats. In another polling site, who had 1500 or so volunteers to go and sit at counting stations where the results are read out at the end of the evening of counting, predicts the PvdA will get 6 of the Dutch seats in the EU parliament.

The result of the exit poll are as follows:

    PvdA Labor party 5 seats

VVD fiscal conservatives, social liberals 4 seats

CDA christian democratic party 4 seats

FvD populist right wing party 3 seats

Green Left (self explanatory) 3 seats

CU/SGP a combination party between liberal christians and very non-liberal christians 2 seats

D66 Liberal party part of the fiscal conservative european faction 2 seats

PVV Geert Wilders, islamophobic populist party 1 seats

SP Socialist party, far left populist party 1 seats

50+ pensioner and old people party 1 seats

Total voter percentage is 41.2% which is up 3.9% from 5 years ago.

But the GeenPeil website, with their numerous volunteers have been accumulating the real data from the real votes, so far from 671 polling locations and their prediction is as follows

    PvdA Labor party 6 seats

VVD fiscal conservatives, social liberals 4 seats

CDA christian democratic party 4 seats

FvD populist right wing party 3 seats

Green Left (self explanatory) 3 seats

CU/SGP a combination party between liberal christians and very non-liberal christians 2 seats

D66 Liberal party part of the fiscal conservative european faction 2 seats

50+ pensioner and old people party 1 seats

PvdV animal rights party 1 seats

Which would mean that the far left SP and muslim hater Wilders and his PVV would be obliterated from the European parliament. The PVV will have gone from 3 to 0 and the SP will have gone from 2 to 0.

But as said, these are preliminary results but the PvdA seems to have gotten the biggest share of the vote and the biggest number of seats after struggling for years.

Re: Provisional results from the Dutch European elections

exit polls have shown that the anti-EU vote in the Netherlands has suffered. Pro-European parties have won 18/19 of the available 26 seats for the Netherlands. All the negative campaigning for example of the SP seems to have backfired. They attacked Frans Timmermans, the leader of the fellow leftist (but much less leftist party) with attack adds. But ti seems to not have worked and might have backfired so spectacularly that they may end up with 0 seats. The same goes for Geert Wilders, our local muslim hater who had hoped for a good result seems to have also maybe lost all of the PVV seats.

The EU supporters came out in droves (so to speak and they gave the anti-EU parties the message that the Netherlands is pro-EU and will not stand with anti EU parties. No matter how they fearmonger.

I think most voters around the EU are more likely to be pro-EU during these elections, especially after seeing how much Brexit has divided the UK and wreaked absolute havoc and mayhem within Westminster.

    Indeed!

That is the one service that the UK has done the rest.

Maybe we should apply for honorary EU membership on account of having done it that favour.

What is also unexpected (least from what I heard) is Timmermans taking the lead.

Yup, taking the lead big time. Several percentage points above the other parties. And let us remember, the PvdA, his party had done terribly in the previous elections, scoring about 9 percentage points lower than he received yesterday. Part of the problem for the PVV is that they fostered so much hatred towards the EU that a lot of their voters simply stayed home. The same goes for that other EU disliking party the SP. In fact a good deal of voters the PvdA raked in yesterday were voters from the SP, D66 and Green Left because Timmermans is a big European figure with a lot of EU credentials who is very pro-Europe and a lot of European Union voters supported that pro-EU vision of the parties that did OK or good yesterday.

I see the Brexit process as Theresa May trying to pull a dead horse over a line where some in her party are pulling with her but a good deal of her party and hangers on (DUP) are pulling the other way on the tail as they want a no-deal or better deal while most of Labor and other EU friendly MP's are throwing up a ramp in front of the Brexit line so that it becomes even harder for May to get to the line and Brexit.

Yes, it was interesting how after the referendum the Leavers were all suddenly hard Brexiteers. Very few including Farage had actually proposed the "crash your economy" option publicly.

Re: Provisional results from the Dutch European elections

    Final Dutch election results:

PvdA (Dutch social democrats) 6 seats (19.0%)

    VVD (Fiscal conservatives/social moderate) 4 seats (14.6%)

CDA (Christian democrats) 4 seats (12.1%)

Forum for democracy (right wing populist party) 3 seats (10.3%)

Green Left (self explanatory I would hope) 3 seats (10.3%)

    D66 (liberals) 2 seats (7%)

Christian Union/bible party (combination social christians and bible thumping christians) 2 seats (6.8%)

    50plus (elderly party) 1 seat (4.0%)

PvdD (party for animal rights) 1 seat (3.9%)

Which means that the PVV (right wing populist anti muslim party) of Geert Wilders has been wiped out in the European parliament. They have lost all 4 of their seats.

And also out of the EU parliament is the SP, the socialist party who ran a very negative add against the leader of the PvdA, Frans Timmermans. It was an attack ad like normally used in for example US elections but disliked a lot in Dutch politics. It is "not done" so to speak and even local party leaders of the SP railed against the negative attack campaign. The SP has lost all their seats and the PvdA is now the biggest party, winning 3 seats.

The far left and the far right have lost masses of votes in the Dutch EU elections.
