Theresa May has promised to set a timetable for the election of her successor after the next Brexit vote in the first week of June.
The agreement follows a meeting between the prime minister and senior Tory MPs who are demanding a date for her departure from Downing Street. Link
for May’s successor, Brexit will be a binary choice: no deal or no exit. The first choice crashes the UK economy and dooms the Conservatives just as Black Wednesday did. The second averts economic disaster but breaks a fragile party. Either choice dooms and defines your premiership.
Of course, anyone who genuinely believes they can be PM must also believe they are a man or woman of destiny, the sort of person who can change history and cheat the odds. Maybe one of our would-be leaders can see a third and better option if the May deal dies. And maybe they’ll be right. Link.
She's going to go if she loses the vote and she's also going to go if she wins the vote. I couldn't name a more incompetent PM in my lifetime and that's saying something. Reading the Spectator article, I can agree the two choices. No deal crashes us as many hard Brexiteers want and no exit crashes the Conservative party. You can also see why even though Corbyn is not a true Remainer, he's not made much effort to agree a deal. The death of the Conservatives will see Labour in power for a decade just as when Blair promised a different destiny from the Conservatives in the 90's.
Lots of successors - I don't see much success in any of them unless they really can change our destiny as a nation.
