[W:33]Eurovision 2019, who is your favorite? I go with Australia

watch who you are talking to sunshine my country helped defeat the nazis and Scotland took the majority of Jews fleeing war torn Europe, before the majority headed to America, Scotland has been a haven for jews throughout the centuries when fleeing from persecution be it from the European mainland or from England, but we cannot condone the actions of the Israeli state ... your country is acting like the nazis you have the Palestinians blocked behind concrete walls on there own land just like the ghettos of Warsaw in occupied Poland

I don't see what the fact that some people from a country you reside in have faught the Nazis has to do with how you take to their positions of vile antisemitism and xenophobia in general. You use the word 'Nazi' as a slur but it seems like you're very fond of what they were about. The Gaza Stirp has a border with Egypt and Israel defends itself from terrorists who want genocide for all Jews and if anything that would be similar to what the Nazis wished and not the other way around. This thread is not about Nazi propaganda, you can find other places where you can promote your nonsense clearly.

It's also heavily progressing towards I/P country without entering it as it should. That doesn't seem prudent, leastwise not to me.

Just saying.:)

As to the ESC (and topic), the last performers I can remember that won and then actually moved on to consistent fame were ABBa.

That doesn't mean much, I'll agree, seeing how I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

Nevertheless my perception is one of most of these "winners" being a one-trick pony show.

Euphoria was an insant worldwide hit though wasn't it.
The singer didn't move forward to have a big international career because she didn't have any other popular songs, but the song was a massive success.

I think the real good artists just don't want to take the risk of having their songs on that stage because of how hard it is to progress towards having a successful career from that point. The UK for example has an infinite amount of successful artists but none seem willing to ever represent it on Eurovision.

With you pointing that out, I've now also remembered yesterday's lunch.

Solomillo de cerdo en Salsa de Pimiento (pork filet in pepper sauce), so thanks for the memory jog. In the spirit of which, I hear that as long as I can still spell Alzheimer, I don't have it yet.

How I see it as well.

Apart from which, it isn't really a quality vote (although it can be), cases of political favoritism having somewhat soured it for me in the past. Not to mention how some of the results truly appalled me, futility of arguing musical taste notwithstanding.

Israel is making a rod for it's own back with it's actions/open defiance of the UN

what's your opinion on the illegal settlements on the West bank , two state solution and the Golan heights ??

if you act like a nazi you deserve to be treated as such same goes for America and it's desire to control the planet ... that was also Hitler's and Nazi Germany's dream and unlike your country Scotland did something about it and we will also do something about the American fascist state .... it's a disgrace to the memory of those brave GIs who came to Europe and liberated western Europe from fascism now there country is turning into the exact same enemy they fought against

i am for 2 states solution like i guess majority in Tel Aviv . this is a song contest not a political one

see here we go criticise Israel and it's vile actions and you are labelled antisemite and Xenophobic .... no country is above criticism and that includes my country and your country ... you can't handle the fact Israel is acting exactly like the people who persecuted minorities in Europe from the 1930s to mid 1940s

and as i state again Israel is not a European nation so they should not be competing in anything labelled "European" ..... and Australia is even worse

The "I only want to criticize" is a line used by antisemites in 100% of the times. Not one single time it wasn't used by one who is an antisemite. You also don't criticize you compare nations that defend themselves from genocidal terrorists to the actions that the Nazis have taken, the mass murder of millions of people, the worst crime in history. That's something that only Nazis do, in trying to legitimize the actions of the Nazis comparing them to the legitimate counter-terrorism actions that democracies take today, and you clearly belong with the increasing group of neo-Nazis in Scotland and Europe in general on the far-right. A little self-awareness wouldn't do you any bad, as well as realizing that your ideology died in the 40s.

Regarding Eurovision clearly no one is asking a xenophobic person from Scotland what should be done, so I find it hopeless on your part.

It's a singing contest and a bit of fluff for the LGBT community - I don't watch, only ever watched when I was a kid and there weren't many channels, no internet and only one TV in the house...

The Netherlands!!!!!

Well deserved. Best song won. I thought for a moment there that Sweden will win it again in an anti-climatic fashion.

It only took 44 years LOL

A few years ago we were robbed by a bearded lady/man/whatever he/she was. That song was nowhere near as good as Calm after the storm.

The contest was originally set up to test (and improve) the limits of broadcast technology. The actual contest was just a vehicle used to commission it. I was listening to some guy on the radio the other day. He reckoned that tech has advanced to the point where much of what you see isn't actually happening on the stage, but is electronically overlaid onto the performances, and this year even more than last.
That said, Madonna's retirement beckoned tonight. Her layered outfit was so heavy she couldn't carry a tune! She lived dangerously by wearing a hooded cloak and an eyepatch while descending a stairway, but nothing prepared us for her wayward singing in the key of off!

That is why I am happy a song won that was music first, flashy stuff second. I do admire that Australian singer on that pole, what an achievement to be able to sing to begin with.

But yes, the horror of the evening was Madge/aka Madonna, she was terrible, really awful and just all around horrendous. There are so many good stars in the world. Give me Robbie Williams or better yet use the movie Rocketman to have Elton perform Rocketman and some other song, that would have been 100 times better than Madge.

Why the Hell is Australia in Eurovision?

I remember staying at Sydney a number of years ago, and they were showing MTV Europe on the cable channel...

Congrats Netherlands :)
