Trump To Be Denied Honour Of Addressing UK Parliament During State Visit In June

Unlike Obama, 45th President won’t get to make an historic address to Westminster Hall.

Donald Trump will be denied the historic honour of addressing parliament during his state visit to the UK next month, government sources have confirmed. In a major snub to the US President, lingering hopes of him delivering a speech to MPs and peers have been dashed following defiant opposition by Commons Speaker John Bercow, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and others. Although Barack Obama made a landmark address in Westminster Hall in 2011, Trump will not be allowed the same privilege after the visit’s organizers decided to avoid a diplomatic row over his “racism and sexism”. The prospect of a speech to both Houses of Parliament was finally ruled out as Commons leader Andrea Leadsom announced the dates of the Whitsun recess break later this month. MPs will be sent away from Westminster from May 23 until June 4, which means the building will be effectively closed during a key part of the President’s trip to London.

As they say, Trumps well-deserved reputation precedes him.

I didn't vote for Obama, and I didn't vote for Trump so that he could speak in Westminster Hall.

That's okay. The Queen snubbed that racist London Mayor, too. He wasn't invited to dinner with the Queen.

Anyway, I don't think Trump's heart is broken. He's more the type to talk to the bosses...not the self-important rabble, which is what that House of Commons is.

They have the multinationalists to contend with, so they have to toe the line. It’s their loss. Kissing Obama’s ass won’t save the multinationals asses, either.

The British know that anytime Trump speaks publicly, he hits all the familiar notes. Example the UN speech a while back. They have saved Trump at least one embarrassment.

Balderdash. Talking to rabble is where Trump feels most at home. He just loves talking to a crowd of rabble. And he loves the signs and trappings of respect. He's pissed right off about this, count on it.

i don't understand why they are letting him into the country without paying a significant travel tariff.

What empty nonsense. What does that last sentence even mean?

Nonsense.

He likes to talk to supporting rabble. Tell me...when has he talked to a crowd of people who don't support him...other than the SOTU and the media? Now tell me how many heads of state he's talked to. More than you can count, I'm thinking.

No, it wouldn't serve any good purpose for him to talk to a bunch of UK legislators...and he knows it.

You do a perfect “sour grapes” routine.

1. Actually, His Excellency President Trump would be doing Parliament a favor by speaking to them.

2. Parliament is showing how petty it is by declining to invite the President.

3. I understand that Her Gracious Majesty Elizabeth II will be hosting a state dinner for the President. (Some politicians who have announced that they will boycotting the dinner are only making fools of themselves.)

4. Later this month, the President plans to be the first foreign dignitary to meet His Imperial Majesty Emperor Naruhito of Japan. The beauty and formality of that occasion is a million times more impressive than speaking to a bunch of British politicians. Can't wait to see the event on YouTube.

Of course it wouldn't serve any purpose. It's not intended to serve a purpose, is it. And I'm pretty sure Trump and you would both be happier if he'd had the chance to turn down the invitation because it wouldn't serve a purpose. But he wasn't invited- that's the point.

Absolutely consistant with the history of the Japanese royalty.

Aw, and I was looking forward to a possible repeat of the G.W. Bush shoe-throwing moment but in GB instead of Iraq.

Bet Trump's reflexes aren't that good. :lamo

Now let's take the lead from the Brits, and deny him the White House in 2020!

Yep, time to schedule a competing "pep rally" with the hugest crowds ever seen, let him tell you, during that time. Perhaps he can hold such a "pep rally" at one of his UK golf courses complete with top musical acts to help swell the crowd size.

We both know he would be crowing about it on twitter if he had been invited to speak to Parliament. He ain't no Ronald Reagan and doesn't deserve the honour.

You can bet the proverbial farm I'll do my part

Your comment is irrelevant to anything I said, but I hope you feel better for making it.

Dismissed.

Trump should hit the UK with a trillion dollars in tariffs. I bet the British would cave in if he does that.

More sour grapes. Unlike our own trump supporters, GB is refusing to reward disgusting behavior.

"Because I say so" has never been a grown up way to debate. "Dismissed" when you have lost is even worse.
