BBC Presenter sacked over racist tweet.

So what is it with you two alt-right types? You want to defend freedom of speech only so you can call black people names or you want to say it was just a joke? That it's OK to liken black people to monkeys?

It's okay to tell jokes about public figures.

I never in a million years thought that the right would become the defenders of humor against a pseudo-moralistic left.

So you are the one watching...

If you turn off CNN they may finally hit a zero rating. :lamo

I have a treadmill in the playroom which I use at around 1am every other evening, and the TV there doesnt have a DVD player so the only thing of interest at that time of the night is usually a newscast.

Danny Baker's fairly extensive apology does include a 'dog whistle' reference to people extending the mania.Danny Baker formally apologises for 'crass' royal baby tweet | Media | The Guardian

It's actually payback for the time on his radio show in the 90's when he announced that Captain Beefheart was dead. When he wasn't. As a 'joke'.

The DJ has described the controversy over his tweet as “one of the worst days of my life”.

The post, which has since been deleted, showed a black-and-white photo of a well-dressed couple holding the hands of a suited chimpanzee with the caption: “Royal baby leaves hospital.”

“In attempting to lampoon privilege and the news cycle I went to a file of goofy pictures and saw the chimp dressed as a Lord and thought, ‘That’s the one!’

It seems that Danny Baker didn't know that the royal baby is 1/4 black. The worst part of the deleted tweet is that it was anti-royal, lampooning their privilege. The BBC is a monarchist broadcaster run by the British government and any BBC presenters who openly mock or criticise royal figures would be immediately terminated.

This isn't about left and right - it's about a centuries old established slur likening black people to monkeys. You'd have to be a complete moron to think this is 1) humour and 2) funny or even 3) simple freedom of speech.

What these free speech "warriors" don't realize (apart from promoting only their own freedom, so as to suppress that of others at the first opportunity) is that you're totally free to state, for instance, that 1 + 1 =3.

They're even free to state that in a maths exam.

The crunch not to be prevented lies in somebody putting a big red mark next to that, probably accompanied by "flunked" and, in my schooldays, "moron".

Doesn't take entering the realm of racism, real or imagined, one just needs to be an idiot.

That there is a bunch of huge nonsense. If you think BBC presenters who openly mock UK royalty would immediately be terminated you have not watched much BBC whatsoever.

So no, at the BBC you do not get fired for mocking the royal family.

It is funny. The fact that it challenges taboos is precisely why it’s funny. Again, it’s amazing how the left has turned into the party of humorless puritans.

Making jokes at the expense of a new born baby is not funny. Also, if the left was not funny it would not be where most of the comedians come from. Billy Connolly is also a left wing comedian, a lot of good comedians are.

Clip taken from BBC's Mock the Week (Series 4, Episode 1). This features a controversial joke by Frankie Boyle about the Queen. Featuring - Hugh Dennis, Andy Parsons, Frankie Boyle, Russell Howard, Mark Watson and David Mitchell

Frankie Boyle was a regular on the BBC panel show Mock The Week until October 2009. He was probably sacked for a joke about the Queen which was perceived to be offensive by many viewers. Boyle said the producers and the BBC Trust were afraid of "frightening the horses".

In October 2008, whilst the Russell Brand Show prank telephone calls row raged on, Boyle found himself in the midst of a scandal when the BBC broadcast a Mock The Week repeat in which he made a joke about the Queen which was perceived to be offensive. This caused many to complain about the state that the BBC had come to with Tory MP David Davies calling the joke a "disgracefully foul comment". Boyle was eventually cleared of any misconduct by the BBC Trust, although they confessed that the comment was "sexist and ageist". Despite the media backlash around this issue, fellow comic Dara Ó Briain spoke out against the reaction saying: "not every TV show is for everyone".

Just like Danny Baker you seem to be confused between "challenges taboos" and "regurgitates lamest of LCD tropes".

I'm sure the baby is very offended.

So what are the parents? Chopped liver? Casual passersby? Not related to their child? Just because the baby is not offended we should do things at the expense of that baby?

Wait a minute, doesn't your country actually kill babies? Which is, you know, a lot worse than making jokes about them.

This is what I find so very hard to believe - how could he not possibly know this?

The royals, and ESPECIALLY Harry and Meghan, are on the pages of almost EVERY newspaper EVERY day, and have been pretty much since the day they met.

Not to mention being all over the internet, and on TV everyday in the UK.

It's difficult to say the least to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He was sacked? So why does he still have a weekly programme right now on BBC 10 years later?

Some people in the US think dragging a black person behind your tow truck with your 2 best mates is funny too. Must have been hilarious when his head came off after however long - is that what you think too?

The rest of civilised society doesn't think it's funny, neither is likening a mixed race kid to a monkey.

Racism as a taboo should never be challenged. It's offensive, harmful, and just plain wrong.

Lampooning the royals is often funny, and always has been.

Their privilege is often under scrutiny by many, and I can understand that. I also understand those who think they don't deserve their position.

Let's just say for a moment that Danny Baker genuinely didn't realise Meghan's family heritage, and that the baby is 1/4 black - then is he a racist?

Surely there has to be intent?

Nice diversion from the topic, so I am going to assume you have nothing relevant to say anymore. You must have not had an argument to make anymore.

He never had an argument in the first place. Just apologia for a racist.

Liberals really can’t distinguish between telling a joke and murdering someone. Perhaps it’s for the best that you guys don’t have a sense of humor.

Real Conservatives are not racists and don't make jokes likening black people to apes in the modern day. Certainly not British conservatives that I know.

When an American "conservative" calls anyone a "Liberal" for thinking racist "humour" is racist then I'm happy to be called a Liberal.
