Hell yeah, this asswipe has been banned from coming to the Netherlands to preach. His views were an affront to our constitutional and criminal laws. Someone who called for the execution of gays, lesbians and transgenders by the government violates our laws and thus is banned from the Netherlands and most likely throughout all of the Schengen zone (Schengen zone is the area of the EU countries where there are no internal borders so unwanted individuals are stopped at the outside border.

I am glad that the Netherlands has banned the Rev. Mr. Anderson.

I remember reading that in the oppressive 1950s, many gay men from the United Kingdom (where gay men were regularly entrapped and imprisoned) used to visit Holland where they were treated in a humane manner.

Best of luck to your small, beautiful country.

He's preaching his belief. You blame Anderson for that? Should Anderson be banned if he thinks the end of the world is at hand, too?

This proves there is no free speech in the Netherlands because the gov't determines what is spoken.

This lunatic can say what he wants but that does not mean there can't be consequences

Anderson should be treated as he would treat others... So in many ways the Dutch did not go far enough.

The Netherlands allows lunatics to proclaim, for example, the world will end in 10 years due to climate change. The gov't is imposing its ideology on the peasantry.

All supremacists should be shunned wherever these carpetbaggers take their ugly hate message.

What if Denmark lets him in?

There is plenty of free speech but there is no right to call for murdering people, if you do that you are breaking the law. If you preach murdering people, than you break the criminal laws of the Netherlands, this has nothing to do with freedom of speech or freedom of religion. Just like we do not allow Muslim hate preachers to call for the death of gays/Jews/non-Muslims.

Claiming freedom of speech should allow people to call for murder is IMHO totally nuts.

That is totally insane to compare the two, one is people who are of the opinion that global warming will end the world in 10 years (not heard of such a ridiculous view but hey, if you have heard it so be it) because last time stating a belief in the impending is NOT the same thing as telling your followers you should go out and kill all gays/lesbians/transgenders.

Now if a lunatic from the US or where ever would come to the Netherlands proclaiming the earth would end in 10 years due to global warming and all people owning gas guzzlers should be killed he would also be banned from my country. This is the only logical comparison, your comparison that you gave is ludicrous because it compares someone giving an opinion and someone calling for MURDER!

So you think the Netherlands should welcome someone who is inciting violence by saying gays should be killed?

Believing the end of the world is at hand is pretty completely different than calling for the actual deaths of actual people.

What if Denmark lets him in?

He is banned from the Schengen zone from what I understood. The Netherlands has entered him into the SIS 2 (Schengen information Sytem) which now should have the notation that he will be refused entry or stay in the Schengen area. And Denmark is part of that system so they too should ban him from entering the Schengen zone

Not quite see how Denmark would refuse to comply with that notation.

Allowing Steven Anderson into the nation or not misses the bigger picture, our real problem is there are apparently people in the Netherlands that want to listen to this homophobic lunatic. I mean he was not going there to talk to no one.

Picking and choosing among lunatics to allow in based on public perception is going to cause a bigger problem in the long term.

I get it, wherever I was I would not be too happy about Steven Anderson showing up and running around calling for gays to be put to death. And he has already been banned from other nations for the same absurd behavior.

But we need to be getting in front of those he wants to speak to and have them hear something else other than the nonsense he spews.

Sadly there are religious extremists (not a lot I would assume) who love hearing rabble rousing idiocy from an idiot that calls for gay murder. The extremist idiots (IMHO) in this question are people who claim they are christians but clearly are not christians.

There are also some muslims with the same idiotic view. You cannot stop everybody from having insane views.

No doubt... so we need to combat the message despite the messenger and/or the ideologies supporting the insanity.

True, they should also be prosecuted if they publicly proclaim such a view of wanting to murder a specific group of people, just like it should happen if they proclaim views of wanting to murder a specific person.

He's banned in several countries, and Israel approves because he's apparently a holocaust denier.

However, I do not approve of banning speech. Even by foreigners.

All that your post proves is that you are simply clueless on the Netherlands and probably on any place outside the confines of your national comfort zone.

So you would have no issue with say a Sharia preacher from Saudi Arabia who says that all Americans have to convert or be killed and that all women have to wear Arabic niqāb's and all those who do not wear it should be stoned, have thrown acid over them or have gasoline thrown over them and set ablaze?

I would never allow that kind of a person in my country, free speech be damned. Now what he does in the privacy of his house that is his problem (or should I say that of his family) but when he does this in public then I think protection and adherence to criminal law and protection against physical damage should be more important than spreading calls to commit murder or violence.

The most vocal advocates of free speech (on here and elsewhere) are most usually advocating free crap. And just as often their very own.

Ironically often hell-bent on using the very concept to promote their own freedoms while curbing that of everybody else in the process.

I'd like to know the chapter and verse from Jesus or his apostles, where he gets his beliefs from...he is not a Christian, that's for sure...I hope he doesn't egg someone onto carry through on his preaching or worse, carry through himself...idiot...

This ruling has also propelled a little known American hate preacher onto the International stage. People will now seek out his message: the idiots will lap it up (and there are more of them than we realise) and rational people (fewer than we realise) will laugh at him.

Personally, if a country bans or prosecutes a muslim hate peddler then they should do the same with a Christin / buddhist etc etc.

There was an alternative. Admit Anderson and if he incited violence arrest and try him.

I am sure this has nothing to do with the new testament and the content of that, this has to do with someone who feels that he should be worshiped and his would should be seen as gospel. He wants to create teachings himself and he has done that by going full old testament and ignoring anything that opposes his stupid views.

1. he already has been banned from several other countries

2. you are right, ban a muslim from spreading hatred, all heat spreaders must be stopped from proclaiming their nutty and dangerous views
