The analysis by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) found 123456 was the most widely-used password on breached accounts.
The study helped to uncover the gaps in cyber-knowledge that could leave people in danger of being exploited.

~

For its first cyber-survey, the NCSC analysed public databases of breached accounts to see which words, phrases and strings people used.
Top of the list was 123456, appearing in more than 23 million passwords. The second-most popular string, 123456789, was not much harder to crack, while others in the top five included "qwerty", "password" and 1111111.
The most common name to be used in passwords was Ashley, followed by Michael, Daniel, Jessica and Charlie.
When it comes to Premier League football teams in guessable passwords, Liverpool are champions and Chelsea are second. Link.

Apparently the most vulnerable group are between 30-50: whereas both older and younger device users seem to be more aware but if your name is Ashley / Michael or Daniel I'm looking at you funny from now on...

23 million passwords using 123456 is just staggering. No wonder so many people get hacked.

That reminds me:

I dont know how accurate this is...but its entertaining.

There was a time when I could crack a password within seconds, and I was not even the best at it. Note that was prior to data protection laws coming into force. As for link to see how secure "My Password" is, I would advise viewers to not even try. That would go double for hackers.

Which is why I used an old unused password.

Well spotted. I can bet there would be people out there who wouldn't give trying it a second thought - while sitting on their own computer and without even a VPN to protect or hide them.
