After Wednesday’s meeting of the council of ministers, French government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux announced that President Emmanuel Macron would activate army units during this weekend’s “yellow vest” protests. This is the first time since the 1954–1962 war in Algeria that the army is to be mobilized in police operations on French soil against the population.

The mobilization of army units comes on top of a series of repressive measures the government announced on Tuesday. These include allowing the state to ban protests if “radicals” attend them, increasing fines for participating in a banned protest from 38 to 135 euros, the setting up of “anti-hooligan brigades” of police, the use of drones, the firing of chemical agents allowing police to trace demonstrators, and the use of police checkpoints to stop and identify demonstrators.

The resort to the French army to threaten protests against social inequality marks a historical turning point of international significance. A wave of strikes and protests is spreading across the world, driven by mounting political anger at decades of austerity and militarism. These range from protests by the “yellow vests” to strikes against decade-long wage freezes across Europe, to the mass protests against the Algerian military dictatorship, to the strikes of US teachers and Mexican maquiladora workers and mass strikes in Sri Lanka and India.

The French are some of the highest taxed people in the world, and Emmanuel Macron created the deep animosity against his leadership by trying to further tax his citizens, with a stupid 'stop global warming' tax. Now he's going to punish those who've blemished the public image he's worked so hard to concoct, with possible military force. This is unacceptable, and Macron needs to resign immediately.

It was less about him trying to tax his citizens, more about fundamental economic injustice when he tried to force the working class to pay more to compensate for his earlier tax giveaway to the wealthy. Since then, he rescinded the tax increases, but refused, through hell and high water, to budge on those tax cuts for the rich, and thus the enmity remains.

Prior to being elected, Macron was described by legitimate sources as David Rothschild's protégé. I was unaware of this, until I read more about it. The corporate media did a brilliant job at painting Macron as a 'maverick', someone who was more marketable than the mean old Marine Le Pen (gender equality in the workforce be damned apparently), and the suave antidote to ham fisted Donald Trump, as a world leader. This is why many of us believe the mainstream media works for bankers and corporations, just the same as our elected officials.

If the French military fires on the Yellow Vest protestors on Saturday, Macron's already tiny poll numbers should further shrink. At least 10 protestors have died due to police action so far, and the American media continues to paint the protestors out as the bad guys, with conspiracy theories such as they're Russian operatives, antisemitic, and deserving of whatever violence the French government dishes out to them. So strange considering how much the media idolized the French habit of public protest, and bestowed righteous motives to previous protests, such as 2005, and 2012 I believe.

The French dont stand for any crap, good on them.

France has an army?

Like, with soldiers, and ****?

Hey, TAAC. Since when were you a supporter of Antifa, uh, I mean, the Yellow Vests? (Sorry, I get them confused, their tactics being the same and all).

Protesting and social violence is looked at as acceptable when its against the government over taxation compared to over hatred of a political party or culture.

Nonsense, as usual nonsense. The military is not used to punish those who blemish anything, it is to stop those looting, burning down cars and properties and starting riots. That is where the force is applied to. Not to peaceful demonstrators but to criminals in a yellow vest.

No, they swim in crap, and now they have to dig their way out, while new crap is being poured onto them constantly. If it wasn't for the smell of piss, they would not be able to swim in it at all, but would sink alike to soft mud.

The French elite piss and **** on the people, and the people have gotten so used to it by now, it does not even smell anymore.

Antifa are morons whose actions encourage people to embrace the very thing they're protesting. For example, the particularly clueless Portland contingent that were filmed pulling an older gray haired man from his vehicle, for not obeying when Antifa took it upon themselves to stand in the street, and conduct traffic. Dozens of such situations exist where Antifa showed themselves to be bullies and assholes.

Wrong Peter- France has let the banlieues largely run amok whenever they decided to riot. Now that the protestors are not citizens of the no-go zones, and actually protesting something with legitimacy behind it, we find out that it's not acceptable to protest anymore. A small 1-2% of protestors have turned violent, which is a remarkable fact considering the protests have lasted 4 months now.

Macron is no longer considered a strong world leader, his image as a banking elitist serving globalization is going to be his legacy. I'm sure he's not pleased about this.

No, it is you who are wrong, the new security measures are because of this

Hmm..so the working class French are finally behaving similarly to the banlieue bunch, after years of seeing them get away with rioting, looting, and burning. Isn't that interesting Peter? Cultures influencing each other, one culture being enriched by another. Fantastic! This is just the kind of thing you've championed for many years now. Curry & chaos.

Are you really going to pretend that riots in France only started happening because of brown immigrants to France? Are you really that lacking in knowledge of French riots throughout history?

You really are all kinds of ignorant aren't you about what people think. I never championed anything violent or destructive or as you call it "chaos", to claim such things is Bull crap.

The riots/problems in the poverty stricken parts of Paris and other poverty stricken parts of other French towns had nothing to do to with "cultures" but with young people who are desperate. You trying to make this about cultures is your usual typical ignorant BS that you usually proclaim. Most of those involved in the riots where either French born people from former Arab French colonies or just French youths. They were sick of the unemployment, the constant discrimination by the police and the poverty. This was not a culture thing, this was a French economic social thing.

Oh, but you should know by now that you don't get to choose which effects of multiculturalism will be adopted by the citizens of the countries being forced to adopt it. A Turkish man killing 3 people on a tram in the Netherlands? Well that's chaos isn't it Peter? And no, you weren't allowed to separate that negative from the positive effects, such as.... well, donor kebabs I guess. See, it's a trade off you're accepting, whether you acknowledge it or not: you get convenient and tasty fast foods, in return for sacrificing your safety, and the future of your country. Its too late now to complain. Eat up.

Why are they desperate Peter? Diversity is our strength. Migrants make us rich. The only way to solve the low birth rates of Europeans, is with non-Europeans. War is peace.

That's nonsense. Immigrants are saving Europeans from themselves Peter. Remember? Why, yes Europeans were encouraged to abort their babies, first under the guise of 'responsible family planning', when those of Soros' ethnicity were spreading fear of a coming population crises, then sold to gullible women as their emancipation, and later still as the 'responsible' way to fight global warming, and racism. But we need those migrants now, otherwise Europe cannot survive!

You are our resident Dutch expert, regularly telling us that populists and anti EU parties cant win elections, and that all is reasonably well in the EU. But it seems you have over-looked what is going on in your own back-yard.

Could you explain why you have not mentioned the Dutch Senate elections. Have you got sudden amnesia?

Far-right populists score stunning win in Dutch provincial vote – POLITICO

Far-right populist newcomer Forum for Democracy stunned the Dutch political establishment after winning the most votes in provincial elections, according to a preliminary count on Thursday of almost all the votes.

Strong gains made by both the Euroskeptics and the Greens in Wednesday’s election mean Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is on course to lose control of the upper house of parliament.

The big winner, though, is the Forum for Democracy party led by 36-year-old Thierry Baudet. The party holds two seats in parliament after entering politics just three years ago. It will have 13 seats in the Senate, one more than Rutte’s liberal VVD.

In a speech to supporters after the election results, Baudet said the arrogance of the elite has been punished.

“We are standing amidst the debris of what was once the greatest and most beautiful civilization the world has ever known,” he said, adding that “we are undermined by our universities, our journalists … and administrators.

This is wrong. The establishment has owned the whole political system in all or most European countries since world war 2. It was a deeply entrenched system that lasts even now, and was in complete control until the new milllenium. Actually, one could only really start to notice a shift starting in 2010. The people of Europe are sick and tired of the establishment, just like the US people showed when they voted for Donald Trump in 2016. If Donald Trump can drain the swamp or not is irrelevant, but the people of the US has clearly stated they are sick and tired of the establishment.

The same process is going on in Europe, but it's different, it's a different system, many countries, many parties etc. But the shift is happening, and it is happening VERY fast and in all countries. In just 9 years, the anti-establishment has gone from virtually nothing to already having 1/3 support in many countries, and a significant amount of support in all countries, even the last bastions of establishment supporting drone societies. Make no mistake about it, the shift IS happening, and it is happening fast and across all borders in the same way at the same time. This shift has reached different stages in all European countries, but most notable is Italy where the anti-establishment has already swept into power! Even in Sweden the liberal hippie capital country of Europe, there is huge support for the anti-establishment, it's poised to become the biggest party in the next election. All establishment parties are collapsing fast!

Observing this train wreck, it might feel like it is happening slow, but it's not. If you look at post-war history and the situation, it is happening dramatically fast. Already in the next election cycle in Europe they will have significant power, and maybe in 10-15 years the anti-establishment will have majority in most if not all European countries. This is unprecedented. As more people wake up to reality instead of the establishment delusions, things will already start to change. Even in countries like Germany and France, the anti-establishment parties is likely to become one of the largest parties in the next election, if not the biggest. AfD didn't even exist 7 years ago, but now already have 12% of votes in Germany and will most likely be far over 20% in the next election and become an undeniable factor in German politics. They have swept into power in all German states and the European parliament as well in the same time period. Germans who think this is a one time thing is fooling themselves, and the establishment try to suppress reality and deny the anti-establishment any voice, which will just further propel their rise.

Same thing is happening in France with Front National, and even anti-establishment protests.

If you want to have a further and better look into what is going on in Europe, have a look into the video archive of American political analyst Dr Steve Turley:

He explains it far better than I can do, and he has in the past and continues to do, analysis of the ongoing political shift in Europe.

The act of that Turkish/Dutch man had nothing to do with multiculturalism, it had to do with the economic success of the Netherlands a few decades ago. There were more jobs than people to fill them. Dutch people did not want to do the simple medial tasks so they hired Spanish, Italian, Turkish and Moroccan people to do work in the Netherlands. Multiculturalism is not because people from 4 countries come to work in the Netherlands. It is when a whole host of different nations come to live in the Netherlands because it is a good country to work, to live and to feel safe. Like Germans, Belgians, Chinese, Polish, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. coming to live in the Netherlands and bringing their foods, traditions and futures to the Netherlands.

The addition of Spanish, Italian, Turkish and Moroccans was mostly economic, it enriched our countries mostly financially. Donor kebabs were just an added benefit.

Also, I don't complain about multiculturalism, the only person I see whining and complaining about multiculturalism is, well, YOU.

Why are they desperate Peter? Diversity is our strength. Migrants make us rich. The only way to solve the low birth rates of Europeans, is with non-Europeans. War is peace.

Diversity is strength, that is a fact of life. Migrants have made us rich. Those 2 things are facts. Also, the issue with immigrants is that over time they get similar birth rates as the rest of the Europeans have. Our houses are not built for large families, our cultures are not built around large families but about small/regular families.

1. what do immigrants have to do with the banlieue violence? Most of them were children of immigrants from French colonies, not immigrants themselves.

2. good, there is the Jewish factor once again, Soros, why not heap on more bull crap in this thread.

3. nobody is encouraged to abort babies, that is yet one more of your lies.

4. gullible women? You really are totally ignorant about women, aren't you. The only gullible statements I have read so far were from you, I don't know which anti-women source you have found but you truly are gullible if you believe that crap.

5. And yup, we are all responsible for the fight against global warming

6. what sane person would not fight against racism

7. And we need immigrants, our economies depend on them/depended on them. They add to our economy and our cultures and you might be scared to death of that, I am not.

No, but apparently you're hoping I wear your strawman argument as my own, aye?

What, do you think Eminem invented rap music?

OK, Kindly elaborate on two comments you made in the post I quoted.

~ so the working class French are finally behaving similarly to the banlieue bunch, after years of seeing them get away with rioting, looting, and burning.

I await your honest response....

I never claimed they cannot have electoral success, so to claim I did so is bogus information on your side aka besides the truth. I said they cannot win the election. And they did not. They were successful, has to be seen how successful they will remain, but they cannot win because the majority of parties and people do not want to work with the right wing extremists and dickheads that rule those parties.

Also, they have 18 seats, Left Wing parties have 20 seats, Liberal parties have 18 seats, confessional parties have 14 seats, the rest has 5 seats (animal rights party 3 seats, 50+ party 2 seats).

Meaning the extreme right has 18 seats, the other parties have 57 seats. In fact the right is still smaller than "the left".

So pretty sure I did not "overlook" anything in my own back yard. And also, ignorant person, it was not for the Dutch senate, there is no Dutch senate election. The result impacts the result of the senate but it was not the senate election, it was the provincial elections.

And in most provinces, due to their idiotic ideas, which they already claimed they would throw over board party ideas to try and get into power. The odds of that happening may not be too large because sadly their ideas do not align well with those of the majority of Dutch political parties. And as we are a country that needs coalitions to form governments, their anti-everything views will not work with most other parties (if any outside of the PVV, but whether or not they want to work with the Fvd is doubtful as their electoral losses mostly went to the FvD, making them competitors for the fringe vote).

Also, Baudet is a populist who is mostly unknown except for sound bytes, his speech has shown how much of an extremist he sounds to be so whether or not he can repeat his populist victory is yet to be seen.
