MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia has decided to deploy nuclear-capable Tupolev Tu-22M3 strategic bombers to the Crimean peninsula in response to the U.S. rolling out missile defense systems in Romania, the RIA news agency cited a senior Russian lawmaker as saying on Monday.

Russia plans to station the bombers at the Gvardeyskoye air base in Crimea, Viktor Bondarev, head of the upper house of parliament’s defense and security committee, was quoted as saying.

Not surprising. Putin recently flew to the Crimea to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its annexation by Russia.

U.S. rolling out the missile defense systems in Romania is the first time Pentagon said the platforms are there to protect Europe against Russia. Until just a month or so ago US policy was to say the missiles in Romania, Poland and wherever in eastern Europe were to protect against Iran. Iran only. Virtually anyone paying attention knew the missiles were to protect against Russia and Putin and Iran too. Now anyone there can know the US missiles deployed there are about Russia. Much more than against Iran. Russia and Putin indeed.

I suppose Trump will find out about this sooner or later depending on how loud Putin gets about it. Pentagon doesn't tell Trump anything any more cause they know Putin is the first person Trump will call to report it.
