"Russian internet trolls appear to be shifting strategy in their efforts to disrupt the 2020 U.S. elections, promoting politically divisive messages through phony social media accounts instead of creating propaganda themselves, cybersecurity experts say.

The Kremlin-linked Internet Research Agency may be among those trying to circumvent protections put in place by companies including Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. to find and remove fake content that hackers created to sow division among the American electorate in the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Instead of creating content themselves, we see them amplifying content,” said John Hultquist, the director of intelligence analysis at FireEye Inc. “Then it’s not necessarily inauthentic, and that creates an opportunity for them to hide behind somebody else.”

Other hackers are breaking into computing devices and using them to open large numbers of social media accounts, according to Candid Wueest, a senior threat researcher at Symantec Corp. The hacked devices are used to create many legitimate-looking users as well as believable followers and likes for those fake users.

While covert efforts to amplify divisive content originated by others isn’t a new technique, hackers and trolls seem to be embracing it heavily in advance of the next U.S. presidential election." Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

Ah, the price of advancing technology. Back in the day, everyone had to interfere the old fashioned way.

Another evidence free propaganda piece.

If western elites want to believe that division in their societies is caused by 'Russian trolls' then they truly deserve whatever fate awaits them.

Who said that?

Who do you consider to be "western elites?"

Not caused, just exacerbated. There is no shortage of the weak-minded.

Considering you quite literally illustrated my point....

How about them anti-Russian CIA bots and trolls all over the internet? They surely have alot more influence than any Russian counterpart.

Too bad we don't know where the CIA troll farm is located, perhaps we could focus a little bit on that as well. Spewing out anti-Russian anti-Putin propaganda on all forums like this, almost on a daily basis. Incredible.

No wonder people are brainwashed about Russia. That comes on top of propaganda organisations like CNN who spew out exactly the same content. This thread is clearly a projection thread. It's in the CIA factbook, most popular method is to accuse others of what you yourself if guilty of. And the US sure does accuse Russia of a whole lot of things. And China too. Talk about manipulated currency, the obvious reason for the gigantic US trade deficit is obviously the overpriced dollar.

But hey, you don't hear that in the media every day.

So long suckers. - Bart Simpson 2005

[irrelevant bot picture]

Impressive. You have a pre-programmed answer ready without actually addressing anything or making any actual arguments.

Perhaps you should ask the CIA for some new programming? Perhaps add an argument in addition to pre-programmed answers? Funny how a Swede cares so much about Russia and their "trolls", yet seem to ignore the far more pervasive trolls and bots of the USA, a country who has actually invaded all your neighbour countries, and continues to maintain their invader force there, while spreading propaganda to the affected populations, including the Swedish population, despite Sweden being "neutral".

It's also fully relevant to compare US and Russian trolls and bots on the internet, and drawing comparisons. Personally I believe the reach and effect of American propaganda is far broader and more pervasive than any Russian counterpart. You might find that irrelevant, but I don't.

The US is an actual danger to European security, Russia is just a theoretical danger to Europe. US have nuclear weapons in Europe and make us a target. The US is making an enemy of Russia, and posturing and thus making Russia an enemy to us even though they don't need to be, and the US has also caused about 80% of immigration to Europe the last 20 years, including the resulting crime and terrorism and security issues that came with that immigration.

"actual arguments." this is my actual argument to all posters from savushkino 55

Yeah, it's called projection and trying to win arguments without any arguments.

Flip the mirror.

There's little point trying to reason with Litwin who seems obsessed with applying a racial approach to Russians. Strange that none of the self styled liberals see fit to call him out on that.

Is it acceptable to be racist against Russians?

Meanwhile Russian trolls are a convenient explanation for all of the ills of the West. This means root causes can continue not to be identified let alone addressed, and the ruling establishments can continue to avoid blaming themselves.

All wonderful short termism. But it's also destructive in the long term.

Haha, I think a good summary:

Russia is the cause of all ills in the west.
