Love the Russian people, hate the Russian dictator.

A familiar refrain from everyone, but it neatly avoids dealing with the dilemma that Putin is there because he's widely supported by the Russian people.

It also doesn't address why these self proclaimed lovers of the Russian people:

1. Think they know better than Russians what is in the interests of Russians.

2. Support the imposition of sanctions which harm the Russian economy (and their own) and adversely impact the Russian people.

If i put aside the shockingly arrogant condescending paternalism of (1) by people who usually know nothing about Russia and couldn't find it on a map, it's impossible to get past (2).

Because your love of Russians is manifested by economic if not yet military warfare. I think you are kidding only yourselves.

Actions speak louder than words, and you're self interested foreigners who do not have the interests of Russia or Russians at heart. Why should you? But let's get real.

Love the Russian people, hate the Russian dictator.

I found Russians in general to be intelligent, friendly, genuine, curious, and hospitable.

It's too bad Yeltsin chose the wrong successor.

I'm guessing you are what I was informed you were.

Yes. I detest the Russian dictator. So get used to it.

Russian dictator? You know he is elected right? And you know that most people who claim "our countries" are democratic state "elections" as the reason for the claim that we are democratic countries, although democracy actually means that the power is with the people and the people rule. So per definition, non of the countries that call themselves democracy is actually a democracy. Then you have the gall to call an elected president of another country a dictator, the single reason most citizens in our countries give for claiming "we are democratic", elections..

Russia also elects parties, and they have more parties than the US btw, a multiparty system. And don't give me the BS about the president of Russia having too much power, without forgetting how much power has been moved to US presidents hands since 9/11 and George Bush.

Also.. Why do you detest the Russian president? What has he done that earns him your hate?

I find Russians I meet to be extremely sharp and intelligent people. I often like them too. But I'm not sure I agree about Putin. I think for Russia he has been an extremely good president, and made Russia very strong, independent and protected Russia from the madness that is now striking western societies. Perhaps you think Putin is the wrong choice, because it's "bad" for the US?

Russia as far as I know has improved massively under Putin. Sure the country have many problems, and I don't live in Russia, and I am no expert on Russia, but everything I've heard and read points to the fact Russia has improved incredibly under Putin. Also militarily. Russia now has a very strong military and defence, despite having far less resources than for example the US. Their military strategy under Putin has also been extremely impressive, and will guarantee Russias indepdendence for decades to come.

Nobody can mess with Russia, including wannabe global dictator and tyrant, the US.

You don't have the interests of Russians at heart because you can't.

Your actions give the lie to your words.

You support anti Russian policies, including economic warfare against Russia, which is literally full of ............. Russians.

Nope, we hate the Russian leadership and the lack of real democracy, not the people itself (even though they are stupid enough to vote for Putin or are justifiably afraid for not voting for Putin).

That's funny considering the US does not have "real democracy" either, nor does any of your allies in Europe, aside from Switzerland, who is not really an ally, but neutral.

Did you ever consider that the whole system is not a democracy in the first place? Russia also has a party system and elections, and when I tell people in Europe we don't have democracy in our countries, they always point to elections as the defintion of democracy, although "people-power" is the defintion, or better said in th words of Lincoln of the people, by etc etc.. Switzerland is the only country I know of in the world where the people have actual power and actual influence. Just having a choice of a person or a group to rule over you it not really democracy. Did you ever consider that in such a aystem, the Russians might actually want Putin? Do you ever care to view it from the Russian perspective when considering if Putin is doing a good/bad job?

My allies in Europe? You do know that I am Dutch? Right? Literally says so at every post I make.

And the US and most EU countries have a democracy that is far far far far far superior to that in the semi dictatorship that is Russia.

And having a semi dictator as a leader does not make you a democracy and Russian leader Putin is about as close to a dictator as a semi-democratic country is able to have.

Where in my post does it matter if you are Dutch or German or US or Canadian? The same is true regardless, and generally speaking. Where you are from is irrelevant, but I get it, you want to make a big point out of it, even it it is irrelevant. Very classical debate technique.

Nah, no European country aside from Switzerland has democracy. You know why? Because you don't know what democracy means, most people don't. And among our countries, the US is not even comparable to the state in Scandinavian countries or the Netherlands or Germany, the US is far less democratic, on line with Russia. Both have elections, both have parties etc. Doesn't make the system a democracy. Only in Switzerland does the people have actual power, which is a prerequisite to be a democracy and an absolute condition.

I consider Russia, US, UK, France to be way further down a real democracy index than most European countries, and although most European countries are not democracies, Scandinavian countries, Benelux, Germany and probably more also, are somewhat far from giving people power, but they have many of the conditions necessary for democracy in place. They are furthest up the list of non-democratic countries towards being a democracy.

Semi-dictator? Where do you get that from? The complete and utter liars in our media and our politics? You know the president of Russia has restrictions of power as well, and that the Duma etc have powers, and the president act at their mercy. You know that right? Because you should, because that's exactly how it works in other systems as well. And talking about semi-dictators, if you look at an index of presidential and prime minister powers across western countries and compare those to Russia, I'm 90% sure Russia would not be bottom 3 on that list. The French president have way too much power for example, it's a huge problem in the French system.

And it's always ridiculous to hear "semi-dictators" like Angela Merkel whine about Vladimir Putin and Russia, when she herself has sat so long, and she wines about him being elected a 3rd time in the Russian system. Perhaps she should be more worried about democracy at home instead of focusing so obsessively on Russia.

We have "semi-dictators" in all countries with presidents and prime ministers. Single individuals with way too much power. Yet we ofcourse need to focus on Russia, not on ourselves. Some self reflection would be so damning.

Anyways, you have been lied to. The Netherlands is not a democracy, nor is Germany or France or any of the countries you think or are told are so. Switzerland is a country where the people have actual power and alot of influence, parties and individuals does not play an important role in that system. Switzerland IS an actual democracy.

Difference between Russia and the Netherlands (or the US) for example, is that Russia is moving in a democratic direction, it has become MORE democratic the last 25 or 30 years or even 20. The opposite is true for the US and almost all European countries, they have become LESS democratic the last 20 years, many of them far less. This is alot more worrying than the state of the state in Russia, perhaps you should start looking closer to home so that we can actually solve some REAL issues for you and me, including stopping the US from waging war all over the world, which Europe can do by saying no to the US. The US have absolutely no options to wage war without European support, it would be fully illegitimate and globally denounced immediately. WE give them that legitimacy, or more correctly, the traitors who control our nations do. And now WE have to suffer for it. Immigrants and the whole discussion would not be a discussion we would ever be having, had it not been for the US creating this enormous amount of immigration in Europe the last 20 years. So who are the real enemies, and who are the real tyrants? If all people are thinking like you we have a very serious problem in Europe.

We need to solve these issues in OUR countries, but if all people do is whine about Russia and Trump, it will never get done.

8 out of the top 10 threads in this "Europe" section of the forum is anti-Russian propaganda or Russian conspiracy theories. If there is any legitimate ones among them it is well hidden by the mindless trash. I include threads that are just "wrong" as propaganda, since it probably just stems from some ignorant fool who relay government or media anti-Russian garbage.

Just so much talk about Russia these days, mostly conspiracy theories and anti-Russian propaganda. I'm just wondering how popular conspiracy theories about Russia really is...

What conspiracy theories are there about Russia?

Who are you? To be quite frank, no one cares about your expectations here.

Well, you have the Russia/election thing, you have the Russia/Trump thing among the most prominent. But also alot about Putin and Russia itself related to paranoid delusional conspiracy theories. "Russia bad" rtc and "Russia hostile" etc etc..

I don't know. The only place I hear about the Russian election conspiracy is right here. On this political site. I really hear none of it elsewhere. Here, I would wager 99% of it comes from Clinton supporters.

How popular, hard to say, I would say a popular subject among only the very political active.

I don't watch a lot of TV and I dislike the news in general, but when I do watch it, there is alot about that stuff on international news channels (most of whom are US based). I also read these conspiracy theories in my local(national news), and I sometimes hear it from politicians, both internationally and in Europe. To me it seems like a major theme among western politicians and western media in general and seems to more or less trickle down to the people. Even to those that are somewhat resistant to BS. Over time, with enough exposure to these things, some start to believe these things.

That's just my personal impression. I answered "mainstream" for that reason.

I hear a lot on the Mueller investigation on TV news. But no discussion among the general public. Perhaps it may all revolve around whom one hangs around and where one goes. Perhaps it is just people are way too busy with their lives making a living, enjoying their favorite sports team, etc. This site is about the only place where it is harped on daily. Of course being a political site, that is expected.

Russia did meddle with the elections. America does it with other coutnries as well.
The Trump thing is more about Trump than Russia
Russia bad and Russia hostile are not conspriacy theories they are just opinions.

Right.

The election victory of Donald Trump had NOTHING to do with Russia, so GET OVER IT! It's a consistent and never dying conspiracy theory pushed continuously by the media and various politicians. How strange.

I never said it did I said Russia meddled in the election. The goal appears to have been to cause instability.

I don't care much about Russia tbh, but they are a victim of vicious and aggressive propaganda. And for that reason I tend to take the Russian side, purely because it is against liars and scum.

You have made not CT linked to Russia except the one that is really about Trump.

Since the USA has chosen to re-ignite the Cold War mentality to feed the MIC profit stream, the MSM has published rampant CT regarding Russia at every opportunity. It makes it obvious that these devious players control the MSM narrative in the USA. That's what I see. The USA must sabotage Russia and China to prevent the fall of the USDollar as the World Reserve Currency. The USA, having weaponized that currency, risks the respect and confidence that had been entrusted to the USA by World Nations. What could go wrong, eh?

Sometimes I wonder in all of this, the craziness, the lies, the illegal wars and all the other clearly visible and absurd and awful things that happen, if it might not eventually serve the good purpose of letting the good people know about these tyrants and enable them to open their eyes when confronted with overwhelming evidence of corruption high up in politics and in the media.

I'm not sure, it's just a thought I have sometimes.. It's all just so damn visible and out there.

Only they aren't

The Trump Russia conspiracy theory is even a state sponsored one. Very ridiculous considering these same people cry conspiracy theory everytime anyone looks into or discusses corruption in high places.

Is your opinion. To me there is a lot of smoke there but Trump is innocent until proven otherwise and we will have to wait on the results of the Mueller investigation and other investigation. But to claim it had NOTHING to do with Russia is an overstatement that you cannot proof beyond any reasonable doubt.

In the media he has been guilty the whole time, and they have massive influence on many people. Many politicians also sign their names to this conspiracy theory by talking about it and spreading further rumours.

Ofcourse the election of Trump had nothing to do with Russia, if you think that I believe you give the Russians too much credit. Let's say theoretically they tried really hard to manipulated the election process in the US, it still wouldn't have made a difference. Trump was elected for completely different reasons, the crazy politicians and media want to hide those facts and blame it on Russia instead. It's an attempted coverup of reality, because they know that the reality is so damn dark they would never stand a chance to even save their own lives if the people knew the truth.

So, it's convenient to blame Russia and cover up the real reason, which is that they are despicable and grotesque monsters, and Trump was elected to try go get rid of them.
