Russia, Western Powers Clash At UN Over Elections In Eastern Ukraine

That is how proxy warfare rolls though, direct russian control would equal an invasion, so control is simply indirect. It is why proxy warfare is so deadly, it skirts international law and uses an intermediate not tied to any recognized govt, making retaliation under international law difficult.

On eastern europe well there was the soviet union, soviet pupper states, but then the soviet union did have the might to march their army on a puppet state when they misbehaved, where they are now in ukraine they could try to flex their muscle in crimea by claiming annexation, but with donbass if the leaders there opposed russia and went independant of them, russia could not simply march their army in to take them without triggering some kind of war of the non proxy variation.

The point is - that is never going to happen since the separatists depend on Russia for their survival against the nazi scum in Ukraine.

Well, thanks for making that point, however little your intention.

I agree that clandestine involvement (little green men with no identifiable uniforms etc.) combined with Kremlin claims of never even having heard of Donbass  makes retaliation under international law difficult.

Bit like the suspect at the precinct denying any involvement in any crime whatsoever.

But in the long run it saves nobody from nuffin'. As imposition of sanctions shows.

Do you think Russia cares much what the West thinks?

We already know. Everybody knows. Russia could be led by the Pope but unless it knelt down, surrendered, and swore an oath of allegiance to Washington, it would still be the 'enemy'.

You people are living in a world of your own. Russia is not going to join the western club, not ever, so get used to it.The opportunity for that has sailed. The westernists in Russia have been defeated, not least by the antics of their sponsors in the West .

Oh dear, the sound of desperation over not winning any argument.

Desperate to the point of refuting arguments never made (like Russia is expected to join the West).

Considering its current leadership, who the hell would want it?

Come on Chagos - think of all the profits being denied western corporates by Russia, China and the other outlaw states. It must make your blood boil. Bring back Yeltsin and the good old days when Russia was raped and pillaged by the west.

Corporations (Western or any other) will do what they always do, dinna fash y'sel'.

The rest of your post being...............................(aw heck, no need to constantly repeat it).

They depend on russia because no one else is backing them, and russia thrives there because no one else had jumped forward to control the strings. Ukraine lit a fire with it's antics, and putin said he will put it out while casually pouring gasoline on it. Putin knows very few other countries would back the donbass area govt's as it would mean undermining ukraines govt, So unless belarus or hungary or some other nearby nation jumps in and offers them more, russia will pull the strings.

Well yes, and the fact that Donbas is on Russia's border, and that many of the citizens are ethnic Russians.

So no kidding Sherlock - Russia will pull the strings, and Kiev and its western provocateur backers know that very well.

And it always fails because it has no legal wings to fly.

It's Ukraine which is slowly dying because of this unresolved civil war in its east, and the problems with other ethnic minorities and neo nazis in the west.

Time to end this tragedy.
