US troops are not in Germany to prevent extremists (left or right) from gaining power, they're in Germany as part of NATO..

US troops are in Germany to prevent this country became really free. When the folk tries to kick Merkel out US troops will support her

Since German re-unification, Germany's (til then still official) occupation status has been nixed anyway, so US troops are there in the interest of all NATO members and at German invitation.

It's obvious you've never set foot in Germany in your entire life. Speaking as a soldier who was stationed there for years, married a German then lived there another decade, you are so hilariously wrong that it's hard to believe anybody could be that stupid. US troops are there at the German government's request as part of NATO security. That is a fact.

In a September poll by German newspaper Bild, Alternative for Deutschland bested every other political party in Germany, including Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union. These results are limited to Eastern Germany, including the capitol city Berlin.

I'm curious as to how our members view the significance of this finding, and would especially like to hear from our German posters for their thoughts.

Given that 75% of East Germans dont support them i would say "very little"
