The John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2019 was signed by Trump on August 13, 2018. It authorizes about $700 million for military construction in Europe with $250 million included for security assistance to Ukraine, $50 million in lethal weapons.

The US and Europe should always dedicate funding for nuts and bolts military infrastructure, but more funding is also needed to combat Russian hacking/disinformation cyberattacks on the European continent.

I guess I should look on the bright side, stock values in the various Military Industrial Complex businesses should do well in the coming year or so.

That's a little pessimistic. They will do well forever given how we treat military spending.

I would think so, especially with a brand new military branch ..... Space Force.

Pissing away monies has been a trademark of the MIC since before Eisenhower. No change. Marketing of wars is as American as apple pie. "War is good business, and business is good." The USA is protecting the MIC as a business, not the alleged evildoers in the Nations we bless with our help like chaos, poverty, destruction and death. Iraq, Syria, Libya, Haiti, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, ad infinitum. Business is good.

Have you heard of the "black budget"?

Trump sends Congress record high 'black budget' spy funding request

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/trump-sends-congress-record-high-black-budget-spy-funding-request

President Trump sent Congress the largest-ever publicly disclosed request for spy agency funding, the administration revealed Tuesday.

Details about the so-called “black budget” are slim, but Trump is requesting $59.9 billion for non-military intelligence agencies and $21.2 billion for military intelligence in fiscal 2019.

The civilian spy request is 3.8 percent higher than what Trump requested last year, and the military figure is 2.4 percent higher than last year’s request.

The non-military request covers the 16-member U.S. intelligence community, including the CIA and the National Security Agency, and is collectively known as the National Intelligence Program.

Disclosure of the aggregate NIP request is mandated by the fiscal 2010 Intelligence Authorization Act, but the Obama administration and now the Trump administration have resisted calls to release individual agency requests, and say that would potentially harm national security.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence said in a statement Tuesday that “eyond the disclosure of the NIP top-line figure, there will be no other disclosures of currently classified NIP budget information because such disclosures could harm national security."

While I agree with our efforts in Europe, we need to pay more attention to south America. China is working hard to marginalize us with infrastructure loans, that will make them beholden to China when things go sour.

If Europe would stop depending on the USA to keep their freedom and do it themselves, we can concentrate more on the Chinese threat.

Iraq, Syria, Libya are Muslim countries.
Panama, Nicaragua, Honduran, are former Spanish colonies.
Haiti is a former French colony.

****ed upedness is baked into their national cakes. We just don't want their political diseases to spread.

That's something the EU needs to finance.

We're all being attacked by Russian GRU military hacker units .... a collective defense is always better than the island approach.

I don't see the EU helping the US.

Seems like the island approach is only important to them if they are the island in question. But, if it's us -- not so much.

Nah, let them pay for it themselves. American taxpayers don't owe them squat.

the USA spending money on Lossiemouth is a complete waste of it's money seeing as by the end of 2019 we will be negotiating our way out of the UK and we won't be part of NATO as we will demanding the rUK to remove it's nukes from Scotland .... thus we won't be part of NATO

If most Scotties are like you, good riddance. Protect yourselves.

Right and killing a bunch of them will bring them to Jesus. The disease a little closer to home, like the door to your domicile.

So why is this John S. McCain ND2A necessary? We're getting screwed again. The MIC is doing fine. Screw em' all, MIC included..

A land Division and a Regiment. You'd have a difficult time fending off Bosnia and Herzegovina for God's sake.

remind us what the UK has just now in conventional weapons about 4 to 5 times more .... the only difference is we won't be wasting a fortune on nukes currently we contribute around £3.4 billion to the UK defence budget ... we can then use that figure as a baseline to up the defence budget if we need to ... we won't be paying £1 billion per warship like the UK does currently ... mugs

Great post Godric.

The UK's overwhelming desire to be the US's most enthusiastic servant and apologist is positively nauseating.

Scotland can of course be totally secure outside the UK and the aggressive NATO alliance by taking a principled foreign policy stance of not deliberately seeking confrontation with
Russia and not participating in NATO and US wars in the Middle East and North Africa.

NATO is like a self perpetuating club for bullies. It creates conflict and wars, usually against defenceless states, and then huddles together in solidarity against those perversely accused 'aggressive' or 'rogue' states and peoples who seek to resist its domination.

Yup. You'll be invincible.

Lol. One of the few nations probably susceptible to the black-smoke belching Admiral Kuznetsov.
