claim EU officials after details of unpublished slide show leak

The claims are seen as a bid to undermine Britain's attempts to present itself
But last night a senior Government source denied the 'crazy' claims outright
It was hinted that Theresa May may have raised it personally with Angela Merkel

Brexit negotiations took a bizarre turn last night after claims British security services are bugging Brussels officials.

EU officials raised concerns after the UK obtained the contents of an unpublished slide show presentation within hours of a meeting, the Daily Telegraph reported.

A senior member of Michel Barnier's negotiating team raised the issue at a meeting on July 13, it was claimed.

Sabine Weyand reportedly told the European Council's Article 50 Working Party that 'it could not be excluded' that British intelligence had penetrated their meetings.

The claims are likely to be seen as a bid to undermine Britain's attempts to present itself as an honest broker as talks intensify. Last night a senior Government source denied the 'crazy' claims outright.

Miss Weyand's fears relate to a slide show presented on July 5 – the day before the crunch Chequers summit. The slides showed the European Commission's economic assessments of UK plans to keep single market rules relating to goods.

They are reportedly highly critical of the proposal, warning such a move would give the UK a competitive advantage.

Within hours the UK had lobbied 'at the highest level' to block EU Commission plans to publish the slides, it was said.

Such a move would have been deeply damaging for No 10. The report even hinted that Theresa May may have raised the slide show personally with Angela Merkel.

According to the Telegraph, Brussels has now put a 'fierce new secretary' outside the secure Brexit meeting room to collect phones and other electronic devices.

This is in the Daily Mail. The Mail is happy to lie and even happier to lie if it makes the EU look bad.

They're trying to establish what May's policy is, so they can tell the population.

I expect it is true

Australia got caught bugging East Timor when they were negotiating a gas deal,

The UK is a ridiculously surveiled society which is obsessed with security services. It would hardly be a surprise if it were true.

It's also probable and even more likely that the US has penetrated the EU, and that the leak could come from that source.

Note - the article quoted refers to the Telegraph, which is as equally disreputable as the rest of the UK media.

the story isn't just in the dail mail (i hate the paper with gusto) the truth is the UK government is all over the place they are panic stricken over brexit ... in the UK has GCHQ and it's part of the Echelon (5 eyes) program ... eves dropping/spying on the EU is not a problem for GCHQ it has the most sophisticated spying/eves dropping tech in the world thanks to the NSA

Whereas one has to agree on large sectors of the British media being highly disreputable, none matches the Petersburg troll factories whose "contributions" often find their way even into that sector.

Beyond all of which it's hardly a secret that everyone spies on everyone and that some do so with more vigour than others.

With accusations of any single country being overly obsessed with surveillance activities being additionally comical when such accusations come from Kremlin propagandists.

The boffins at GCHQ are hard at work trying to decipher the message on the EU slide show: 'have cake and eat it' = lmao

Everybody spy's on everybody else! That is normal operating procedure.

In god we trust all other are surveilled.

Everyone spies on everyone... well not the EU since they don't have the capability.

However the real issue is how the Brits were caught.......

We might be bugging the talks but our Government have shown complete incompetence in making any use of whatever information our spies tell us.
