My question: is this what westerners really want?
Russian posturing after they did something heinous....
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said, as he rejected food and Humanitarian aid, "We are not seeking to fill our (bellies), we are looking to break the Israeli siege on Gaza."
Looking out for the people of Gaza.

Whistling in the dark to play to own gallery.

When it comes to retaliation, the only arrow in the Kremlin's quiver would be actual war (bang-boom and all that). That'll be fun to see them shoot own foot.

It's a bit like Erdogan threatening to freeze the assets in Turkey of the American justice and interior ministers, if they have any (such assets)

    Note the bolded.

If you ever cross me here or elsewhere, I'm gonna let the air out of the tyres of your car. If you have one and, more importantly, park it within my reach.

As to the question of whether Westerners really want any of the empty threats to be put into practice, obviously none of us can speak for all Westerners. But I'd be more than happy to see the hand called, just as I'm very much okay with Kremlin shenanigans being sanctioned in the first place.

There is still far too much patience displayed for those thugs.

Trade war with our major trade partners is bad and no one wins in the end. A trade war with Russia is one where they have everything to lose and the US wins without s shot being fired and possibly resulting in Putin being removed like the Czar was permanently.

He probably meant the political entity of UK, not the geographical one of Great Britain.

Britain (Great or not) is about as much a country or state as is Scandinavia.

But most UK citizens get confused over that as well.

True enough. But most people in the world are not attuned to (or terribly concerned about) the distinction.

Great Britain and the United Kingdom (UK) are oftentimes viewed as synonymous.

you keep going on about what aboutism to justify the ills of America .... nobody outwith Israel and Saudi Arabia trusts America .... you are a much bigger threat to the EU than Russia will ever be and if you want to talk carpet bombing Raqqa and Mosul nothing is standing in these two cities one in Syria the other in Iraq

    @Casper

Russia can ban sales RD-180 and RD-181 rocket engines, ban the buying and selling of the US dollar and all exports done in rubles , Euros or Yuan .... and Russia can change the currency to being backed with it's huge gold reserves.

Stop any co operation with the USA including it's illegal operation Syria and the ISIS space station, America is no friend of Russia and it's no friend of the EU either ... also either ban or impose heavy tariffs for US air companies flying over Russian Federation airspace.

It would have a massive impact on US flights to and from Asia including the lucrative japan route .... the shortest route via America to Japan flies over Sakhalin/Northern Siberia, through Alaska and Canada, Russia can also ban the sale of all precious metals and ban the sale of enriched Uranium to the USA, no more luxury Russian Caviar ..... i wonder how the rich in america will have to deal without the finest caviar and the possible loss of the finest French champagnes when the EU trade war kicks off again

Re: Latest sanctions on Russia amount to economic warfare

The Russians get it... the Chinese still think it's all just a Trump tantrum. Yes indeed sanctions/trade are economic tools of war and by utilising sanctions the US is indeed waging economic war on Russia. The Russians however utilised chemical and cyber weapons and are waging chemical and cyberwarfare on the UK/US, not to mention the jamming of communications in Syria and the hybrid warfare in Eastern Europe. So there we have it.... all out in the open now, war without conventional weapons or wmd's

I think the US are entitled to use what they have at their disposal until all weapons are packed away by all parties, including the Chinese with their unfair trade practices
