Europe 'committing suicide'

A more accurate proclamation would have been; Europe is committing self-genocide.

Self-genocide...makes no sense.

Genocide means to cleanse a people from a geographic area...

So where is the cleansing? The death marches? The mass graves? Of course because it is "self", that must mean we Europeans.. not a people btw, but will come back to that.... are putting ourselves on death marches and dropping ourselves into mass graves?

And about the Europeans... there is no such people, so "genocide" is kinda impossible. There are different peoples in Europe, so are you saying that all countries are doing the same self genocide at the same time?

They would have to go on a diet and lose the tattoos and the dogs on strings. No going to the supermarket in your pyjamas. No binge drinking by teenagers.

No pale skin.. despite living here for 20 years!!..

And yea the stupid tattoos... worst part it is spreading to the non British population as well.. so many with stupid tattoos ruining their bodies.

I am always amused by the people who come here knowing nothing about Europe and speaking as if it was one country. An American friend of mine once called her mother to say that she had moved to Belgium and her mother asked which country it was in. I once met two American engineers in a bar and Antwerp and I told them that the lights on the other side of the river Schelde was Italy and they believed me.

The EU should hold a referendum too allow Brits in... now that would be funny.
Yeah, the situation is not without its comical side.

What amazes me is the number of Brits living here in Spain that are actually advocating the currently popular kick-out policy.

Those that I have encountered I've made sure of never encountering again but when in the car I sometimes listen to TRE Spain (maybe you know that "Talk radio") and they have one of these call-in hours on some mornings.

Incredible the number of morons calling in that actually live in Spain, yet in their total lack of self-awareness scream for the EU policy of freedom of movement of EU citizens to be scrapped. Reminds me of (years ago) visiting a Brit acquaintance in the Mojacar urbanization he lived in and commenting on the immense number of foreigners that lived there.

To which he replied "Oh no, no foreigners at all, we're all Brits here".

What the heck are you attempting to argue with HER for?

It was just bait.

And actually improve their vocabulary in the language of the guest country to exceed three words.

The current population of Europe is 742,705,968 as of Tuesday, August 7, 2018, based on the latest United Nations estimates. 911,000 refugees. Yes, we are being swamped.

I remember a time when tattoos were considered to be "common" (as in something found with people living in sink estates).

Okay, sailors got away with them as something inherent to that culture and convicts really couldn't help it, but anyone else....................

But yeah, sign of old age on my part, refusing to accept that things change:mrgreen:

You could have fun pointing to Morocco here (visible on clear winter days) and calling it Syria.

What happened was that I met them in a bar in Antwerp and they asked me where they were. I found it a puzzling question. It turned out that they were two engineers on a contract in Germany, they had a free week so they went to the station and caught the first international train and went to Amsterdam then again caught the first international train and ended up in Antwerp. They had never heard of Belgium. These were not stupid people. I blame it on a failing of the American education system. This is why I don't take people who know nothing about Europe coming here and telling me that the place is doomed. From what I hear from my American friends the USA is nearer doom.

They're swamping us to the point that, would you believe it, I came across an actual Moroccan restaurant here the other day.

And, curse my defeatist and self-genociding soul, actually ate there.

Later repeated the exercise with a Lebanese place, then with "the Indian".

Only place I don't frequent much is "Ye olde English tavern". Yorkshire pud in Andalusia is kind of an anti-climax to me and when you have San Miguel I don't really need the muck that in the UK passes as beer.

Speaking of the latter, you really have it made up there.

To not make this too (one-sidedly) condemning, I used to have a Yank neighbour (resident here) who, not coming from anywhere near his country's Southern border, had to lean Spanish from scratch.

And did.

He'd spent nearly half his life in the M.E. and, while finding work there good, didn't find it to be his most favourite place for retirement. Climate being one point of consideration he found Spain to be sufficiently moderate while his native Minnesota didn't quite meet his criteria for desirable winter temperatures.

It was from him that I first heard that the US's chief instrument of teaching its young people geography consisted of going to some war.

He'd experienced that as well but hadn't been in any uniform since Viet Nam.

Great guy and unfortunately passed away some years back. I still miss him.

Yes, wonderful beer and they know how to handle it. No binge drinking, no feral teenagers falling out of clubs at 2 am and causing havoc in city centers. The Belgians are social drinkers. I have lived here for forty five years and I have never seen a fight in a bar. When I was a teenager in Wales you needed to take boxing gloves out with you on a Saturday night.

Anyway, back on topic. The EU does have an identity crisis in the sense that it wants to supplant nation states but does not attract a significant loyalty or have an identity of its own. The 'free movement' principle was designed in part to break down national identity, but in many ways it has perversely damaged the EU's reputation and made it an easy target.

But the failure of the EU to have a properly enforced common external border, combined with Berlin's 'open door', were gratuitous own goals.

Considering that significant numbers of EU citizens were already voicing concerns about immigration back in 2014, the events of 2015 / 16 were always going to strengthen the position of those aggrieved people.

Now you can call them racists, xenophobes or whatever, but the horse has bolted. Immigration is now a mainstream issue, and mainstream parties have a choice of either dealing with it or becoming irrelevant to huge numbers of voters.

Back on topic:

Worked (and thus lived) in Brussels for a couple of years, enjoying it not just there but most of Belgium on weekend outings.

Fantastic little home breweries as well, that nobody but the locals had ever heard of. And the food exceptional practically everywhere one went.

Winters not so much my thing but best time of the year to visit places like Bruges and Ghent, Antwerpen too. Umbrella a must but tourists very few.

It took fifteen years for my brother to visit me. He always said that he did not want to go to boring Belgium. At last he deigned to come and after two weeks he said that Belgium was the best kept secret in Europe and for the last fifteen years he takes his holidays here.

You've either gone semantical on me or are acting on the premise that I literally meant "self-genocide".

Either/or, both are ridiculous and juvenile on your part...But it's ok, I'll play along with ya, Pete.....this time!

When you intentionally put a loaded gun to your head, pull the trigger, and kill yourself, you've committed suicide.

The Europeans are on track for self-induced cultural genocide so it's either intentional or they're just plain stupid.

How? By opening their borders and flooding their continent with literally millions of non-vetted foreigners

Many of which:
Are uneducated.
Are criminals.
Are terrorists.
Carry diseases and infestations.
Are unemployable and unable to compete on a continent of industrialized nations.
Are of radical religions that are intolerant of other religions, cultures, ethnicities and laws.
Have multiple language barriers; being themselves of different nationalities and languages.
Segregate themselves from society and never assimilate to the Western Cultures of Europe.
Are of third world cultures in which raping, mutilating and murdering women are all condoned.
ie; these people bring all the unpleasant baggage associated with their own cultures and countries.

Legal Definition of genocide
: acts committed with intent to partially or wholly destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group;
_____________________________________________________________________________

The European Governments have created the perfect storm for self-induced cultural genocide.

And I can't for the life of me imagine how their actions could have been unwitting!

What the heck are you attempting to argue with HER for?
Whoa Chago...what's with cap-sizing my "HER"?

Heyyy, you're not gettin flirty with me are ya? :neener

It was just bait.
Oh shucks Chago; I wouldn't worry bout "bait" if I were you.

If anybody did catch ya; they'd just throw ya back.

And probably you're ole buddy Pete too. :giggle1:

Look Hera, if you can't respond in a grown up manner by actually addressing what I stated in a post of mine that you quoted in response, don't bother quoting me at all. Since I'll have to add you to the list of people whose posts are not worthy of further response.

So if you then desist from quoting any post of mine, it'll save my notification box from getting cluttered up with spam.

Thank you very much.

so does that mean you don't like my ostrich head in the sand picture? I thought it was the perfect reply.

Actually, most civilized areas tend to keep blenders for such things when they surface.
