Turkey is at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, so I took a chance and posted under the Europe sub-forum. This will be interesting to follow. Turkey is sure to ask for their cleric to be returned. The one Erdogan blames for the failed coup.

Erdogan was way ahead of me:

another international game of chicken?

You don't think American citizens are worth fighting for?

That's not what he's saying.

He didn't make a conclusion, he was just pointing out we have a situation.

While I don't like the idea of pissing off Turkey, giving in should not be an option.

Turkey is asking for their cleric returned? Are you implying that Gulen is being held prisoner in the United States like the American pastor? The Turkish cleric lives free in the United States, unlike the American pastor in Turkey.

Do you think Erdogan's accusations hold water and that Gulen illegally directed the coup from the United States? And do you think we should forcibly extradite a political dissident to a country where he is almost certainly going to be imprisoned, whatever the validity of the charges, in exchange for our pastor?

Turkey, even being a NATO member, has become a de facto militaristic dictatorship that violently oppresses many of its citizens, and is digressing into what may become an Islamic Caliphate before it's all over.

Turkey under the Erdogan dictatorship is anathema to democracy and is growing closer to Putin's Russia. Consideration should be given to removing this oppressive regime from NATO.

Turkey is also ethnic-cleansing the Syrian Kurds in northern Syria (Rojava) that have been fighting ISIS with US forces since 2014.

At a minimum, US nuclear warheads stored at Turkey's Incirlik air base should be repatriated

No, he is not, to all of it.

But you do get a place on the Olympic Conclusion Jumping team.

He said "Erdogan is way ahead of me," which can imply that he is possibly of one mind with Erdogan. But I am happy to listen to Rexedgar's clarification and correction of my presumption if he chooses to give it.

Totally agree.

Turkey should've been dumped from NATO years ago.

It’s customary to quote a poster in the body of your reply, if you want a response. If you look at the OP, I made the statement that Erdogan would want to get the “thorn in his side” back on Turkish soil. I posted that before I found the accompanying link......

Thank you for the clarification, Rexedgar.

Last year rumour was Flynn was offered $1.5 mil to hand Gulen over to Erdogan he then ended up making a deal with Mueller... can you even begin to imagine what Erdogan would do if he got his hands on Gulen

Ex-Trump aide Mike Flynn 'offered $15m by Turkey for Gulen'
