*This thread is posted in the Europe sub forum, because it consists of Netanyahu's remarks made while visiting Merkel in Germany. Please do not discuss I/P on this thread.*

Netanyahu began his three-day European tour Monday in Germany, where he warned Chancellor Angela Merkel Iranian meddling in the Middle East could spark massive new refugee flows to Europe.

Speaking to reporters at a joint news conference with Merkel, the Israeli leader said Tehran wants to conduct a religious campaign in largely Sunni Syria by using Shi'ite militias under its control to convert Sunni Muslims.

"This will inflame another religious war -- this time a religious war inside Syria and the consequences will be many, many more refugees. And you know where exactly they will come," he said.

Germany and other European nations saw an influx of more than one million migrants, creating deep political divisions and fueling the rise of far-right parties.

Netanyahu is blowing more smoke while expecting no one to call him out for it. Syria is 96% Sunni, and the Iranian government has no plan in place to 'convert them', although I'd bet money that Netanyahu would love to see a religious war break out between Iran and Syria, while Israel supplies weaponry and aid to both sides.

Maybe it's time for Netanyahu to admit that he helped garner support for the Syrian civil war, which caused a million Syrian refugees to flood Germany in the first place. Together with President B.O., the 'Syrian rebels' were given weapons and assistance, which weakened the Syrian government's ability to deal with ISIS. Terrorist organizations like ISIS & Al Qaeda were then able to gain footholds into Syria, and Israeli officials have even admitted to aiding some of these terrorist groups. Why should you care? Because ISIS & the Al Qaeda branch in Syria has murdered and kidnapped scores of Syrian Christians, which are one of the oldest Christian communities in the world. The apostle Paul was converted to Christianity in Syria after all,, according to his biblical writings.

So while Netanyahu threatens Germans with another tidal wave of Syrian refugees, remember that it was the USA & Israel that helped create this whole mess, and helped to ensure the murder and displacement of a religious minority that was doing well in Assad's Syria before Obama & Netanyahu schemed to upset peace:

"The population of Christians dropped from 1.25 million in 2011 to as few as 500,000 today,” said ADF International in its report. “It is estimated that in 2015 alone, over 700,000 Christians in Syria sought refuge” in other countries.

Despite their minority status, Christians have long been among Syria's elite. They have been represented in many of the political groups which have vied for control of the country, including the secular Arab nationalist and socialist movements which eventually came to the fore.

Although, like other Syrians, they had very limited civil and political freedoms, Christians are believed to have valued the rights and protection accorded to minorities by Hafez al-Assad, who was president between 1971 and 2000, and by his son Bashar.

Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been displaced by fighting or left the country. Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch Gregorios III Laham said last year that more than 1,000 Christians had been killed, entire villages cleared, and dozens of churches and Christian centres damaged or destroyed.

This has led some Christians to express support for President Assad, particularly as sectarian violence has increased and jihadist militant groups calling for an Islamic state in Syria have grown in strength.
