This is why you cannot trust extreme right wing Germans, Hitler was just bird poop

Of course the modern day Germans are not to blame for the crimes of the Nazi's and Hitler, but for an extremist right wing politician to minimize the crimes of Adolf and the Nazi's is just wrong no matter how you look at it.

I suppose that it all has to do with the context and I'm probably missing much of it.

To the Indians of the American Southeast, the Trail of Tears and the Concentration Camps of the Nazi Era in Poland probably bear some similarities.

Both the American and the German Societies have moved beyond either and both. Sadly, this is one of those examples in which you just can't wash the stink off.

Except what happened to the Indians is now several generations later, the holocaust was not even one true generation ago, plenty of people are still around who survived the holocaust or the war started by the nazi's. And while the trail of tears was horrendous for the Indians. There is no greater injustice in the world than the holocaust IMHO and minimizing the guilt of the German's in this like he did is sickening.

I agree with his actual comments, which seem to lament the very real perception that most foreigners have of Germany. After more than a millennia of history, many Americans can only name 'Nazis' when asked about German heritage, history or culture.

Stalin and the Soviet communists seem to have faired better legacy-wise, but then again, Soviet Russia legalized punitive capital punishment for antisemitism, so their numerous crimes against humanity may not be deemed as egregious in the eyes of those who mold and disseminate history.

Cattle cars, ovens and gas chambers will tend do that.

It's similar to how children ****ing has overshadowed 2000 years of the Catholic Church's other deeds, even burning people at the stake.

I agree that there is a virulent streak of anti-semitism but there is also a non-anti-semitic movement of purely anti-Israeli occupation opponents who are not anti-semitic.

That's a pretty complex identifier.

I've always been pretty impressed by the restraint of the Jews with regard to the terrorist thugs launching missiles into their cities and murdering their citizens by any means at hand.

I live in Indianapolis. Indiana is about 140 miles wide. Israel is about 15 miles wide at its most narrow and about 70 miles wide at its most wide. Not much room to hide there. Hopefully, Ohio won't attack.

If the Netherlands decided that the annual launching of about 1000 missiles into Berlin was a good idea, as the terrorist murdering thugs on the border of Israel have decided, I feel that Germany would not be so restrained in its response as we have found Israel to be.

I could be wrong. Stories about windshields and bugs come to mind.

I would love to get into this and explain why you are partly right and partly wrong but that is a discussion for the Israel part of this forum. But that is not the issue I was making. Sure there are anti-semitists who hate the Jews for them being Jews, which is very different from the anti-zionists and the pro-Palestinian rights people.

Anti-zionists are for me just as virulent and disgusting as Anti-semitist because that too is a Jew Hating ideology IMHO. I am a pro-Palestinian rights kind of a guy, I support a high degree of Palestinian rights but not at the serious expense of Israeli rights, both have a right to be there. But again you are trying to make it about the Israel-Palestine issue and that was not my intent when I wrote this.

Actually, for anyone to minimize any crimes against humanity by whomever they were committed is is just wrong.

Sins of the fathers?

Alrighty, then...

I am too young to have had a bike during the war (born in 1968) but my grandfather was kidnapped to Germany to do forced labor there. But I doubt they had their bikes stolen either.

I have read once in a book about the war (a children's book, for that reason I can remember it so well) is that resisting the Nazi's was not just the ones who took up arms against the occupation but also the old grandmother who buried her copper pots and pan so that the Germans could not turn it into bullets.

it was just a joke - sorry if it was too rude

Of course it was not too rude, there are plenty of Dutch people at soccer matches holding up signs "Looking for my bike" and stuff like that.

I thought it was funny.

Sadly the Nazi's (not the Germans, they did not choose this, they were indoctrinated by the Nazi's to believe all their crap) were monsters and acted accordingly. Like with forced labor and theft of the properties and riches of the countries they occupied.
