I don’t buy this excuse! I would love to see the reaction of the Brits to a Presidential visit!

Wasn't that a decision made by the Bush administration for terrorism reasons?

Here is the reaction from the Mayor of London via twitter

Many Londoners have made it clear that Donald Trump is not welcome here while he is pursuing such a divisive agenda. It seems he's finally got that message. This reinforces what a mistake it was for Theresa May to rush and extend an invitation of a state visit in the first place. pic.twitter.com/lNaQGx9iBw

Yes. Another 'alternative act' from Trump.

Wasn't that a decision made by the Bush administration for terrorism reasons?

It was.. just another lie from the Chimp in Charge in the White House.

The decision to move the embassy was done BEFORE even Obama was elected.

Yes,

Why are you trying to sully this discussion with facts?

Who screens his tweets? Calling General Kelley, Phillip Morris, paging Philipp Morris. For the folks raised on B&W tv.

It’s only worth a few seconds of time, the video......

He knows that he would face huge protests if he ever came. A narcissist such as himself couldn't cope with that.

^ precisely this

President Manchild can’t take the ego hit. The damage he is doing to America’s reputation is irreparable.

He's petrified there might be a repeat of his last visit!

Yes, but Obama could have changed that decision but that would have mostly been made out of partisan issues and not out of there being an issue with Bush's decision. The decision by Bush was a wise one and the best decision and that it was done with no extra cost to the US tax payer (from what I understand) is admirable, that is not bad decision making but making the right decision.

There’d have been some loud protests, some silly stunts (and related alliteration) and lots of politicians talking circles on the media but the vast majority of us really couldn’t care either way. I can’t help wondering if he’d take that as the bigger slight.

Well, he's saved everybody considerable future embarrassment and not just himself.

That he has to tell a load of lying tripe to justify anything is really something everybody should have gotten used to by now.

It's when he actually tells truth at some stage that it's time for the medics to be sent in. No worries, won't happen.

Scary that Trump can lie so openly and so many Americans swallow the lies, share the tweets and like them. He did say during the election he could shoot someone and still get votes - or words to that effect.

Mark my words, he will continue to lie and that rump of Americans who voted him in will get him a second term. I can't see modern America realising in the way it did with McCarthy and his witch hunts.

What will be will be, yet it wasn't his hard-core gallery of supporters that to this day he keeps playing to, that won him the election.

And all on their own they won't win him the next one either.

What remains to be seen is the extent to which those having seen the alternative as a choice between Satan and the devil, see a future Democrat candidate as presenting little else.

You are a bit more optimistic than I. Very early in his candidacy I had a feeling the movie "Idiocracy" was not just a musing on America's distant future.

Sadly, I assume it would be difficult for Trump to plan any foreign visit. Those foreigners who (mistakenly) think all Americans are arrogant jerks have their prejudices confirmed in the man. He is the ugliest of “Ugly Americans.” More sadly, many of his supporters see no harm in this, as they come from the “America pays for everything and why should we care about other countries anyway?” school of politics. Even Norwegians might protest.

Oh, I gave up optimism as long ago as I gave up pessimism and that was in the distant path. Just looking at the situation and that in the full realization of it always being current.

No idea what he will have "achieved" within the next 3 years and no idea what his failures will by then show as being.

But whatever will elevate him or undo him, it won't be any of the issues that people currently either enthuse or vomit over, it'll be the individual wallet.

He's free to visit, he's likely to face protests which may be what he is worried about.

I think you misunderstand us. I remember in the 70's hearing comments / jokes in pubs and other public places about Americans but attitudes have changed. I think most of us see a buffoon, we don't see a representation of all of America. The comments I do read or hear tend to be about his unquestioning and unthinking supporters.

Oh, I gave up optimism as long ago as I gave up pessimism and that was in the distant path ~

You're being curmudgeonly again. I think you revel in it sometimes.

I forget myself. I stand corrected. :lamo
Well, don't do it again or I might consider any doubt over my status as a perpetual curmudgeon to be an intentional slur on my so strenuously acquired reputation.
