Will US isolate Turkey now? (including us secular Turks who disagree with Erdogan on pretty much everything) I had no plan visiting US in the near future, but a sad news for young people who were going to give documents to the embassy, say, tomorrow.

The Erdogan government has gone over to the dark side.

But why punish random people?

It would include many important people in industry- Govt, who will be unable to travel to the US.

This week, Turkish authorities arrested a U.S. Consulate employee of Turkish nationality for alleged links to the network of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen who the Turkish government blames for last summer's failed coup. Gulen denies involvement.

Metin Topuz is accused of espionage and "attempting to overthrow the Turkish government and constitution." Turkey's official Anadolu news agency reported this week that he allegedly communicated with former police chiefs in a 2013 corruption probe, 121 people involved in the attempted coup and hundreds of people using an encrypted mobile messaging application. The U.S. Embassy said it was "deeply disturbed" by the arrest.

Erdogan has aligned Turkey with Russian (and Iranian) forces protecting the Bashar Assad government. Erdogan is also purchasing sophisticated weapons (S-400) from Moscow.

On another note, I'll not soon forget the siege of Kobane. With ISIS forces closing in on Kobane on three sides, Erdogan closed the Turkish side. He wanted ISIS to butcher YPG/YPJ Kurdish forces and the Kurdish population still remaining in the city. If not for intense US air strikes against ISIS, Kobane would surely have fallen. It's also no secret that Erdogan will do whatever is necessary (ethnic cleansing) in the Rojava cantons to remove Syrian Kurds from the Turkish border.

OK but what those has to do with random Turkish people who never voted for Erdogan? What is their crime? The students or young people who would like to visit US or study there are the %90 of those who never vote for him.

Erdogan has been the president of Turkey for a long time. Someone voted for him.

Those someone are not fond of traveling US, lol. Secular part detest Erdogan and are the ones fond of Western education or touristic visits.

I doubt it's about punishment as much as precedent. I am not sure, what position and statua the fellow had. But it is never an easy matter, when a country arrests a consulate employee with less than convincing evidence or even with good evidence things get nervouse.

Erdogan's security guards assaulted American citizens in broad daylight in Washington DC. That might be normal for his thugs in Ankara, but not here.

They are thugs and it is normal for Erdogan's chosen employees, he is doing much worse to us Seculars using his police or security guards.

US shouldn't have let those thugs out of country, agreed. But now US punishing secular, western minded people who loath Erdogan.

I realize it is unfair to secular Turks kaerin, but there does come a point where America has to say enough is enough.

You now have a dictatorial/authoritarian regime in Ankara. Relations are bound to change.

LOOOL Turkey has decided to go tit for tat

I don't think divorce is needed, Turkey with Russia would be pretty terrible for the situation in Europe and ME.

US needs to help us getting rid of Erdogan and we should continue being solid partners since 1950s..Remember Turkish soldiers died in Korea with the call from US.

US doesn't 'need' to do anything.

With Erdogan and Putin as allies, I suspect things will be getting very bad for the Kurdish people in Turkey and in all of the ME.

Probably too late without bloodshed. I think Mullah Erdogan is going to be your presidential oppressor for a long time.

Well before my time, but I salute their brave service. It is entirely possible another war is coming to the Korean peninsula.
