Far-right politician promises to get rid of Arabic numerals. [W:80]

I can say a lot on Pat Condell but with a poster like you, I won't bother.

I also won't bother with deciphering your above post over whether or not Condell has ever killed anyone.

This thread is about the blatant stupidity shown by a German Nazi politician, not about what some run-down British has-been comedian feels he has to bless the world with on the blurb tube.

Are you the OP?

Are you the OP?
You getting tired or something?

As opposed to most of your threads, the OP actually reports on something that is true. It isn't really that difficult to follow.

Except maybe for you, seeing how you've contributed absolutely nothing of any import or knowledge to that topic since your arrival here.

And your threads? Stop pestering me.

Oh dear, calling you on your futile derailment attempts and your spouting forth on issues that you demonstrably smack of ignorance over is now pestering you.

What a sad response.

NOT FUNNY

Try that with a 3 digit or greater number and get back to me.

It took me a while to get used to the numbering system here; incidentally, the "Arabic" numbers are shared with the Persians, Dari speakers, Pashto, Uzbeks, Tajiks, and Urdu speakers.....they remain ( aside from one or two variations) virtually unchanged, even though the languages themselves are quite unique.

The claim by the poster you respond to (that numbers are no longer written and read right to left in Arabic once two digits are passed) is false anyway. Much as two digits being written left to right is.

As such 1436 is written (and read) in Arabic right to left as six-and-thirty-and-four-hundred-and-a-thousand.

In the West we have for some reason adopted the writing (from right to left smallest first and largest last) but we just pronounce it the other way round. Thinking Roman still.

And, not surprisingly, write it the way we pronounce (think) it.

Were Arab speakers (and related) to say it our way and write accordingly in their script, they'd write 6341.

Nope, you were talking about numbers in general. Your bad again.

ME: I found it odd that numbers are written left to right.
YOU: It's not really, considering that they're still read from right to left.

See, "they". Numbers. ALL numbers. Anyway, your disingenuous attempts to gainsay just about anything I post are a tedious waste of both our time.
I meanwhile addressed this (belatedly) in post #83.

As such you might be wasting your time and mine, I'm not wasting mine at all, however
.ME: I found it odd that numbers are written left to right
considering the fallacy of your understanding, that serves as an oddity indeed.

Yes, I am aware of that, and the languages I spoke of in my post are all written/read from right to left as well.

I was simply pointing out that the actual numeral, or how the numerals are physically written ( without regard to direction) are nearly identical.

This is one of your most creative lies. Well done!

Speakers of Arabic do NOT read their numbers that way. 1436 is read thousand, four hundred, two and thirty.

If you don't believe me, just ask my good friend Chagos. In response to my post #33 in which I said, "When I was studying Arabic I found it odd that numbers are written left to right. The number you have above is 32, not 23.", my learned colleague admitted, "Correct, my bad."

Makes one wonder how you would know, seeing how you must have learned something completely different from "standard" Arabic in Maadi.

YOU can read it any way you want to, I'm not continuing to argue the silliness of it.

If you want to believe any of this, just DON'T ask our good friend Steve.

Anyone that can be bothered to scroll back to the total exchange (and no sweat if anyone can not be bothered:yawn:) will see the dishonesty of his above claim.

As you like, Mister. Ma'asalaama.

Those chances improve daily.
As a belated parting gift, your ignorance has found confirmation as was to be expected.

The guy in question (Nazi) got 3.5 pct of the vote. That means he's as away from anything as you are.:lamo

Yeah, I know, you're out of it but the election DID happen today.:2razz:
